Teradici Updates PCoIP Hardware Accelerator (APEX) with Caching and Enhanced GPU Support

Teradici, the developer of the PCoIP protocol, today announced updates to the Teradici PCoIP Hardware Accelerator (APEX) with a new 2.3 driver release that will complement a physical GPU in VMware Horizon View environments and add caching support to optimize bandwidth. The Teradici PCoIP Hardware Accelerator offloads PCoIP image encoding tasks and reduces server CPU utilization. The 2.3 driver update enables IT managers to cut bandwidth usage by up to 50 percent and ensure successful VMware Horizon View deployments with an improved user experience and greater VDI consolidation ratios.

"After virtualizing the desktops in all of our classes and computer labs, we noticed issues with performance and quality when running graphic intensive workloads, which led us to explore a solution that could improve end-user experience," said Mahesh Neelakanta, director of IT, College of Engineering and Computer Science, Florida Atlantic University. "Teradici offered the exact type of product we needed to manage higher graphic content. With its PCoIP Hardware Accelerator, we can now ensure a high-performance user experience without overprovisioning our server- even in peak workloads."

Since its release over a year ago, Teradici has seen strong demand for the PCoIP Hardware Accelerator. The company remains committed to supporting new use cases, such as physical GPU support and support for blade servers, to provide broader options for VMware customers. The Teradici PCoIP Hardware Accelerator has also experienced great traction in the market with over 25 percent attach rate on new VMware Horizon View deployments on rack servers, and is now available from a number of resellers worldwide. The strong ecosystem of partners supporting the card, certified by leading server OEMs such as Cisco, Dell, HP, IBM and Lenovo on rack offerings, and integrated with VDI-in-a-box vendors such as HVE Systems, Pivot3 and V3, has added to the overall success of the solution.

"A high-performance and consistent user experience is often difficult to achieve with many VDI implementations, creating a great opportunity for our Teradici PCoIP Hardware Accelerator," said Olivier Favre, director of product management, Teradici. "The new 2.3 driver release enables users to leverage caching support, for more optimal usage of available bandwidth, and greatly improves user experience at the remote end point for VMware Horizon View deployments leveraging GPU support."
