Imprivata, a leading
global provider of healthcare IT security solutions, today introduced
Imprivata OneSign ProveID
Embedded to enhance fast, secure No Click
Access® to electronic medical records (EMRs) and other clinical applications
within virtual desktop environments. Imprivata partners HP and IGEL Technology
will integrate Imprivata OneSign ProveID Embedded directly into the firmware of
their thin and zero clients, providing customers with an out-of-the-box solution
for delivering seamless access to clinical applications and patient information
at the point of care.
Imprivata will
showcase OneSign ProveID Embedded along with its
single sign-on
(SSO), authentication management and HIPAA-compliant
secure text messaging
solutions in booth #216 at this week's VMworld® 2013 in San
Francisco.
"
Strong
authentication allows healthcare
organizations to optimize their virtual desktop environments by allowing
clinicians to quickly and seamlessly access the information they need, wherever
they need it to deliver the highest-quality patient care possible," said David
Ting, founder and chief technology officer at Imprivata. "Imprivata OneSign
ProveID Embedded enhances these benefits by enabling HP and IGEL to deliver
off-the-shelf strong authentication capabilities integrated directly into their
thin and zero clients, which further simplifies access to roaming desktops for
clinicians while ensuring that HIPAA compliance and security requirements are
satisfied."
Initially developed in
collaboration with Texas
Instruments, the Imprivata OneSign
ProveID Embedded architecture enables Imprivata OneSign authentication workflows
to be directly integrated into thin and zero client devices, providing customers
with an out-of-the-box solution for giving clinicians fast, secure access to
applications and information from any endpoint. By eliminating the need to
remember and enter multiple passwords to access virtual desktops, Imprivata
OneSign ProveID Embedded improves workflow efficiency and enables providers to
better focus on patient care.
The
self-updating Imprivata OneSign ProveID Embedded automatically checks for an
Imprivata OneSign infrastructure and downloads the latest agent. It also
automatically detects, downloads and installs any updated agents on the endpoint
device without any input from IT or the end user and without the need to reboot.
This minimizes cost and maintenance requirements while helping organizations
optimize their virtual desktop environments.
Imprivata OneSign ProveID Embedded will initially be integrated with
the IGEL UD2-LX MultiMedia Universal Desktop Thin Client and the HP t410 Smart
Zero Client, and through support for Intel x86 processor architecture, future
versions of Imprivata OneSign ProveID Embedded will integrate with HP's t510 and
t610 Flexible Thin Client products as well as with IGEL's UD3, UD5 and UD9
Universal Desktop Linux Thin Client product lines.

"The No Click Access to
clinical applications and patient information that Imprivata enables in our
virtual desktop environment delivers both the security that IT requires and the
convenience that clinicians need to better focus on patient care. Enabling
strong authentication capabilities to be integrated directly into zero and thin
clients enhances these benefits and demonstrates how Imprivata continues to
innovate with the clinical perspective in mind, which is why we consider
Imprivata to be an integral component to our long-term IT
strategy."
Frank Fear, vice president of
information services, Memorial Healthcare
"Our
goal is to provide clinicians with access to the technology and information they
need-whenever and wherever they need it-to deliver the highest-quality patient
care possible. Desktop virtualization allows us to accomplish this, and the
integration with Imprivata OneSign ensures that our clinical staff can quickly
and securely access the applications they need to keep them focused on the
patient. As we continue to identify ways of optimizing our virtual desktop
infrastructure, the ability to deploy thin and zero clients with built-in
integration with Imprivata OneSign creates a seamless, cohesive solution for
providing users with the convenience they want while at the same time ensuring
we meet HIPAA compliance and IT security requirements."

"We continue to see demand
from healthcare organizations for desktop virtualization combined with strong
user authentication management as a means of simplifying how clinicians interact
with information technology while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and security
regulations. As thin and zero client devices gain adoption to support roaming
access, we expect the ability to deliver out-of-the-box strong authentication
capabilities to be a significant value-add to help organizations truly optimize
their virtual desktop infrastructure."
