Teradici, the developer of the industry-leading PCoIP technology for virtual
workspaces, today announced that Amazon Web Services (AWS) is using PCoIP in its new
desktop-as-a-service offering. The new service, Amazon WorkSpaces, was
introduced and demonstrated during today’s opening keynote at the AWS re:Invent conference in
Las Vegas.
Amazon WorkSpaces, a fully managed desktop computing service
in the cloud, allows customers to easily provision cloud-based desktops that
give end-users access to the documents, applications and resources they need
with the device of their choice, including laptops, Kindles, iPads and Android
tablets.
“Enterprise mobility, BYOD and increased workplace
collaboration are all inevitable trends. Our PCoIP technology reduces the cost
and complexity of these innovations, while maintaining enterprise-grade security
and availability,” says Dan Cordingley, President and CEO of Teradici. “AWS
deciding to deliver desktop computing services in the cloud gives the desktop as
a service category significant momentum.”
Amazon WorkSpaces uses Teradici’s cloud-optimized PCoIP
technology, which easily scales to meet customer requirements, and provides
best-in-class security and a superior user experience over a range of
networks.
“Teradici PCoIP is a proven technology with millions of users
and a broad ecosystem. We’re excited to be delivering this highly secure and
innovative technology via the cloud, solving many of the problems associated
with BYOD and simplifying the delivery and management of enterprise personal
computing,” says Gene Farrell, General Manager, New Business Initiatives,
AWS.
Teradici PCoIP remote display technology allows the user’s
desktop operating system, applications and data to reside in the cloud,
eliminating the need for traditional desktop workstations and PCs. The PCoIP
protocol compresses, encrypts and ¬encodes the entire computing experience at
the datacenter and transmits it ‘pixels only’ across a standard IP network. It
provides an uncompromised user experience from anywhere, over any network and
any type of device, and removes many of the security risks associated with
remote data storage on PCs, laptops and tablets.
Key benefits of Teradici PCoIP technology
include:
- Uncompromised user
experience
- Reduced
costs
- Increased agility and
scalability
- Best-in-class
security
- Simplified
management
- Increased organizational
mobility
Amazon WorkSpaces will be available on a wide variety of
devices including secure, high-performance PCoIP zero clients, and PCoIP
Optimized™ thin clients from Teradici’s broad partner ecosystem.
