Nexenta's solution-centric vision is built around the industry leading cloud and virtualization technologies and applications being deployed by customers today, including OpenStack (#openstack), CloudStack (#cloudstack) and VMware (@vmware). With this latest release of VSA for VMware Horizon View 2.2.1, Nexenta is again enhancing its application-defined storage solution designed specifically to address the storage requirements associated with deploying VMware Horizon View.

Nexenta VSA for VMware Horizon View v.2.2.1 provides virtual desktop administrators the ability to accelerate the performance of their desktops while providing greater density at a much lower price point. This release includes new and improved capabilities such as:

  • enhanced replication support
  • improvements in user interface and in user experience.

This is in addition to the industry best virtual desktop acceleration and desktop performance analysis, providing 38x SAN offload and 72 percent increases in density versus traditional Horizon View deployments, all while integrating directly with the VMware Horizon View suite and VMware features.

These features include the use of vStorage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI) for Network File Systems (NFS) to accelerate deployment times, providing faster desktop deployment, recomposes and reconfigurations. Key enhancements include:

  • The Re-tether feature
    • Ensures that all virtual desktops and the VSA that serves as their storage are located on the same VMware ESXi host, reducing latency and increasing desktop performance.
    • Enables users to choose between VMware vMotion and VMware Storage vMotion providing further integration with the full VMware vision.
  • VSA auto-start policy
    • Reduced auto-start time for VSA improving availability of the desktops Horizon View is serving.
    • Additional integration with the vSphere suite configuring high restart priority for the Nexenta VSA.
  • Extended Backup and Replicated High Availability (RHA) support
    • Improved replication progress monitoring to give the administrator greater insight into their infrastructure.
    • Added support for bare-metal NexentaStorâ„¢ 4.0 as a backup and RHA appliance giving the full benefits of the latest in ZFS file system technology and more reliability.
    • Added capability to select a separate network interface for replication traffic increasing performance of backups and reducing recovery times.
  • Optimized UI load time

This new release continues to make Nexenta VSA for VMware Horizon View the best choice for VMware Horizon View based VDI deployments and is available for download now.

"With this release, Nexenta continues to deliver on our application-defined storage solution for VMware Horizon View," said Bridget Warwick, Nexenta CMO.
