PLUMgrid IO Visor and Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro Integration Delivers Industry-Leading, High Throughput Virtual Network Infrastructure for Public and Private Clouds

PLUMgrid, the leader in Virtual Network Infrastructure (VNI) for public and private clouds, and Mellanox Technologies, Ltd., a leading supplier of high-performance, end-to-end interconnect solutions for data center services and storage systems, today announced performance benchmarking results from the PLUMgrid IO Visor and Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro integration. The combined solution delivers an industry-leading traffic processing rate of 40 Gbps per server.

The benchmarking results show that the PLUMgrid IO Visor and Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro integration resolves the longstanding performance and CPU utilization bottlenecks in cloud overlay networks. The tests demonstrated the ability to scale PLUMgrid’s Virtual Domains and their distributed network functions on top of a VXLAN-based overlay with the hardware assist capabilities of Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro. The combined solution provides the advanced networking features, performance, scalability and flexibility needed for today’s private and public clouds.

The PLUMgrid OpenStack Networking Suite is a secure virtual networking product for large-scale OpenStack clouds. Built using PLUMgrid Platform and IO Visor technology, it provides a simple-to-deploy and easy-to-use solution to build cloud infrastructure at scale to offer secure, multi-tenant network services to OpenStack cloud users. Based on a highly automated workflow, the PLUMgrid OpenStack Networking Suite enables applications and users to deploy private Virtual Domains in seconds without changing the physical network fabric.

Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro is the industry’s first network adapter IC and card with hardware offload engines that support virtualized overlay networks commonly used in cloud infrastructures. Featuring hardware offload support for VXLAN and NVGRE, ConnectX-3 Pro enables cloud providers to build large-scale infrastructures with industry-leading performance and dramatically lower CPU overhead, thus reducing cloud application cost and increasing cloud ROI.
