Convirture has released a new version of its ConVirt Enterprise virtual and
cloud management solution that adds support for Microsoft Hyper-V clusters as
well as live migration capabilities. For datacenter managers that are also
managing cloud platforms, ConVirt
Enterprise Cloud now supports Amazon Virtual Private Clouds that are part of
their EC2 infrastructure.
ConVirt tackles a very complex and growing problem with
a very simple solution: As data centers become more complex with multiple
virtual and cloud environments, the need to manage it all with a
'single-pane-of-glass' is not a luxury, but a necessity. ConVirt offers
sophisticated management capabilities for virtual and cloud platforms, including
KVM, Xen, Hyper-V, VMware and Amazon EC2, at a fraction of the cost of the
dedicated point solutions that are available for each individual
technology.
Beyond providing a comprehensive virtual and cloud
management tool, ConVirt provides sophisticated functional capabilities for each
individual platform. So ConVirt does not merely manage the native toolsets that
are available for each platform. Instead, it adds features so that all platforms
that are being managed by ConVirt are brought to a level of usability and
functionality that is simply not possible with native virtualization and cloud
management tools.
"The
additional support for Hyper-V clustering and live migration, along with the
Amazon VPC capabilities really brings another dimension of flexibility and
usefulness to our customers," said Arsalan Farooq, CEO of Convirture. "When we
launched the new version of ConVirt in January that added management support for
Hyper-V, the response was overwhelmingly positive. Microsoft has done a good job
of making clustering easily deployable for their user base, so it is no surprise
the single most requested new feature since our January launch was the ability
for ConVirt to effectively manage Hyper-V clusters without the need to buy
System Center. On the cloud side, as more of our customers shift workloads to
Amazon EC2, management of VPCs from within ConVirt makes it that much simpler to
manage all virtual and cloud assets from that single pane of
glass."
Highlights of New Features in ConVirt
Enterprise:
- Hyper-V cluster support: Data center managers can now manage the full virtual
machine life cycle on Hyper-V clusters from ConVirt without needing System
Center. This includes the ability to use and manage Hyper-V environments for
high availability and failover purposes, as well as resource pooling, all
managed via ConVirt Enterprise.
- Hyper-V migration : Support for live migration of virtual machines with or
without shared storage. This provides a cost-effective and simple means to
balance Hyper-V workloads, perform maintenance on servers and move workloads
from staging to production, all with no interruption or system
downtime.
Highlights of New Features in ConVirt Enterprise Cloud
ConVirt Enterprise Cloud includes all the features of ConVirt Enterprise and
adds support for widely used cloud platforms including Amazon EC2, Eucalyptus
and OpenStack.
This
new version of ConVirt specifically adds:
- The
ability to manage Virtual Private Clouds (VPC). Users can provision and manage
virtual machines on subnets within the VPC.
- Management of resources of multiple VPCs (from single
or different regions) within a single Virtual Data Center abstraction provided
by ConVirt.
All
version of ConVirt Enterprise will also include:
- Self-service functions, including snapshots that enable self-service Hyper-V and
VMware users to take and manage snapshots via the ConVirt console. Self-service
users can also now edit CPU and memory resources for existing virtual
machines.
- Various usability and performance improvement's including noVNC integration for Xen and KVM virtual
machine access as well significant improvements in dashboard
performance.
