Veeam Software, long time provider of backup and replication solutions for the modern, virtual data center, has announced a name change to its Veeam Backup Management suite -- re-branding the solution as Veeam Availability Suite v8.  The new name change fits within the company's new messaging framework, showcasing how this new upcoming suite will enable the "Always on Business" by ensuring all applications and data are accessible whenever and wherever they are needed.  And it will do so with a recovery time and point objectives (RTPO) of less than 15 minutes.  The v8 release is scheduled to be available sometime in Q3 '14.

For Veeam, this new messaging means things are no longer just about backup management; instead, it's about availability -- always on business, with no tolerance for downtime.

According to the company, Availability Suite v8 will cover near real-time data protection and disaster recovery at a fraction of the price of what other solutions would cost. 

Achieving non-stop availability of applications and data traditionally requires huge investments in redundant systems with instant fail-over features to ensure recovery within seconds.  But that type of investment could only be justified for a few applications, and a lot of businesses had to be content with having the majority of their applications served by legacy backup solutions that offered RTPOs of several hours or days.

But in the era of the always on business, IT must make applications and data available to all party members, every minute of every day.

Veeam Availability Suite v8 will deliver High-Speed Recovery, Data Loss Avoidance, Verified Protection, Risk Mitigation and Complete Visibility, with even more new features:

• Faster backups and rapid item-level recovery of hardware snapshots with NetApp snap support
• Lower RTOs with granular transaction-level recovery of SQL databases and Active Directory (in addition to Explores for Exchange, SharePoint, HP and NetApp snapshots as well as U-AIR for all other applications)
• Improved off-site recovery with major replication enhancements

Veeam also made enhancements to the replication engine which makes the suite even more robust!  And it also adds built-in WAN acceleration for replication jobs, and performs planned fail overs to facilitate data center migrations without data loss.
