@NIMBOXX Files 11 #Patents for Software-Defined Data Center

NIMBOXX today announced it has filed for 11 patents relating to the company’s ‘atomic unit’ of the software-defined data center, technology that puts a hyper-scale computing model within reach for organizations of all sizes. The patent applications reflect the company’s disruptive approach to eliminating data center complexity with a high-performing solution that converges servers, storage, networking and security.

The patent-pending technology includes the NIMBOXX Mesh Operating System (MeshOS), which installs on bare metal and allows for direct control over all hardware resources, a unique approach that enables full software-defined data center functionality and delivers dramatic performance improvements. MeshOS also offers a RESTful API for integration with third-party applications. Additional patent filings include:

  • Single-platform software-defined data center virtualization
  • Heuristic algorithms for software-defined data centers
  • Non-serialized creation of virtual data centers
  • Dynamic modification of storage tiering/caching mix
  • Dynamic power policy for software-defined data center
  • Disk drive enclosure for reduced final-insertion impact
  • Cluster architecture for a shared-nothing software-defined data center
  • Self-configuring and topology-auto realizing interconnect
  • Predictive analytics and statistics for optimal resourcing
  • Using share-nothing atomic unit building blocks for building virtualized data centers

“These patents reflect our culture of continued innovation and commitment to revolutionizing the data center with technology that enables hyper-scale computing for companies of all sizes,” said David Cauthron, founder and chief technology officer at NIMBOXX. “The industry has stood still for too long. We’re thrilled to bring our new approach to market and see the early results our customers are experiencing.”

Founded by a team of seasoned virtualization, storage, networking and security experts, NIMBOXX’s software-defined approach is applicable in all data centers, regardless of size, where virtualization is planned or implemented. The company was recently named the People’s Choice Award winner at Gigaom’s 2014 Structure Launchpad competition.
