If you weren't able to make it to VMworld 2014 this year in San
Francisco, you unfortunately missed another fantastic event! Times are tough, but hopefully you won't miss next year's event. Start planting the seeds now with your boss!
Whether
you made it out to VMworld this year or not, please check out these
video interviews with some fantastic companies sponsoring the show this year. The expo hall was filled with nearly 275 companies showing off
their wares, and we did our best to meet with as many of those booths as
humanely possible within a 3 1/2 day time crunch. While we couldn't video interview everyone, we
were able to get a nice mix of interviews this year, which I'd like to share with you below.
A special thank you to HotLink, Tegile, VMTurbo, X-IO Technologies, SolarWinds, Unitrends and Zadara Storage for making the trip possible.
- Video Interview with Unitrends - Unitrends, a leader in the IT protection and disaster recovery industry, showcased their unique
multi-environment arsenal of backup, archiving and disaster recovery
solutions, providing customers with the technology they need to protect
and preserve their physical, virtual, and cloud environments at an affordable price.
- Video Interview with Tegile - Tegile is a company pioneering a new generation of affordable
feature-rich storage arrays
that are dramatically faster, and can store more data than standard
arrays. These guys offer a unique metadata handling technology called
IntelliFlash, allowing Tegile arrays to deliver caching and on the fly
de-duplication and compression for primary storage.
- Video Interview with VMTurbo - VMTurbo’s Software-Driven Control platform enables organizations to
manage cloud and enterprise virtualization environments to maximize
infrastructure investments while assuring application performance.
The company's patent-pending Economic Scheduling Engine dynamically adjusts
configuration, resource allocation and workload placement to meet
service levels and business goals, and is the only technology capable of
closing the loop in IT operation by automating the decision-making
process to maintain an environment in its desired state.
- Video Interview with HotLink - HotLink's award-winning technologies transform VMware vCenter
for hybrid IT, so all the existing VMware administration and management infrastructure
can be utilized for Amazon, Hyper-V, XenServer and KVM - absolutely no other
consoles are required!
- Video Interview with X-IO Technologies - Gavin McLaughlin provided us with a fantastic demo of the technology and we learned even more about X-IO's VDI Emergency Response Program.
- Video Interview with Zadara Storage - The company has pioneered enterprise storage as a
service (STaaS), delivering high-performance, highly available and
predictable (QoS) file and block storage, in a pay-as-you-go model for
on-premise deployment and via global service providers.
We also caught up with a few other vendors.
- Video Interview with Cirba - Cirba has re-imagined infrastructure control for the software-defined era. Fortunately, we were able to connect with Andrew Hillier to learn more and get a great demo of the product.
- Video Interview with CommVault - They recently launched new Simpana Solution Sets and pricing
options so that they can sell their solution in bundles aimed at
performing
specific tasks. The four packages are for virtual machine and cloud
backup, endpoint protection, email archiving, and snapshot management.
- Video Interview with Zenoss - Zenoss is a leading provider of unified monitoring and analytics software
for physical, virtual, and cloud-based IT infrastructures.
- Video Interview with DataCore Software - DataCore is a leader in the software-defined storage market. We caught up with DataCore and Paul Murphy, the company's VP of
worldwide marketing at their booth during VMworld 2014; and after a
solid overview of the company and product, we also got a nice demo
walk-thru of what the technology looks like and what it's capable of
doing.
We even had the opportunity to meet up with a few folks outside of the Moscone Center.
- Exclusive Video Interview with HotLink and Equinix - VMblog spoke with Brian Lillie, CIO of Equinix
and Oded Haner, CTO of HotLink. Equinix is a large customer of HotLink
and in this exclusive video interview, Brian Lillie explains how his
company makes use of HotLink's technology and describes what problems it
helps them solve.
And then we created what we like to call the Tea Garden Talks at VMworld 2014.
- Interview with ThousandEyes - ThousandEyes provides IT performance management for the cloud era. The
company's solution provides detailed visibility beyond the corporate
network perimeter,
identifies the root cause of performance problems with cloud
applications and enables distributed collaboration to resolve problems
quickly.
- Interview with Elastica - a leader in Data Science Powered Cloud Application
Security. Its CloudSOC platform empowers companies to confidently
leverage cloud applications and services while staying safe, secure and
compliant.
- Interview with CloudPhysics - CloudPhysics provides data-driven insights for smarter IT, giving IT
teams more power than ever before to understand, troubleshoot and
optimize their virtualized datacenters and drive better operational
decision making.
- Interview with CloudVelox - CloudVelox automates critical hybrid cloud infrastructure processes —
from discovering the constituent hosts to replicating and provisioning
and launching groups of systems — all with drag and drop menus.
CloudVelox also extends the enterprise data center to the Cloud so that
these distributed multi-tier applications can access any necessary
services residing back in the enterprise.
- Interview with Platform9 - Platform9 was founded by early VMware engineers who have decades of
experience building virtualization and systems management products. The
company has created a cloud service that transforms servers into an
agile, self-service private cloud in minutes.
