Scale
Computing, the leading provider of hyperconverged data center
solutions, today announced the new release of its patented Ultra-Easy
HyperCore Software system, which expands the capabilities of its HC3
family to provide greater scalability and storage computing power.
HyperCore integrates storage, servers, and virtualization software into
an all-in-one appliance based system that is scalable, self-healing and
as easy to manage as a single server.
HyperCore continuously monitors all virtual machines, software and
hardware components to detect and automatically respond to common
infrastructure events, maintain application availability and simplify
datacenter management. HyperCore v5 introduces the following features:
-
Non-Disruptive / Rolling Updates ‒ HC3 clusters can be upgraded
with no downtime or maintenance window. Workloads are automatically
live-migrated across the HC3 appliance to allow for node upgrades,
even if such an upgrade requires a node-reboot. Workloads are then
returned to the node after the upgrade is complete.
-
VM-level Snapshots – Near-instant VM-level snapshots are now
available. Scale Computing’s proprietary Allocate-on-Write technology
allows for no disruption at the time of the snapshot, no duplication
of data, and no performance degradation even with thousands of
snapshots per VM. A snapshot can be simply “cloned” to start a VM
while still maintaining the integrity of other snapshots both upstream
and downstream from the cloned snapshot.
-
VM “Thin” Cloning – Enables the user to take a space efficient
approach to cloning a VM. Thin clones are immediately bootable, and
are similarly unduplicated using the Allocate-on-Write technology.
-
Import/Export VMs to Remote File Server – Export allows the
user to export VMs to an external server for a full VM backup /
archive with a single click. Import allows the operator to fully
recreate a VM and virtual disks from a remote server.
-
Higher Capacity Systems – HyperCore was optimized to support
new HC3 nodes with 2x VM density by doubling the I/O performance, CPU
and memory resources per node. All HC3 systems are highly available
and include built-in unified management. The result is a data center
solution designed to help mid-to-large size companies seamlessly scale
their infrastructure simply and cost-effectively.
“Maintenance windows cause downtime, create stress, and cost money,”
said Jeff Ready, CEO at Scale Computing. “Our product roadmap has always
focused on creating an integrated turn-key infrastructure that is easy
to use and manage. Providing the ability to upgrade and grow
infrastructure without downtime delivers on that vision.”
Customer Validation
“Scale Computing provides us with a virtual platform that fits exactly
what we’re trying to do and will expand as we grow and need it to
expand,” said Peter Belk, an IT Operations Manager at Oxford University.
“The simplicity of the HC3 platform has helped us free up a good deal of
IT team time that we can spend on developing new and better services
rather than playing with the backend architecture.”
Analyst Reaction
“Scale Computing offers the mid-market a virtualization platform that
can enable them to simplify their infrastructure,” said Benjamin Woo,
managing director at Neuralytix. “Companies can get the
ease-of-management and scalability they need to optimize operations and
grow their businesses.”
“Scale Computing has simplified the convergence of storage, servers and
virtualization in an all-in-one easy-to-manage appliance,” said Colm
Keegan, senior analyst at Storage Switzerland. “Scale Computing provides
efficient full-stack ownership, offering the simplicity of a single
server, the high availability of a virtualized server and SAN, and the
scalability of a clustered infrastructure.”
Availability and Pricing
HC3 models 1000, 2000 and 4000 are all available now. Pricing for an HC3
three-node system starts at $25,499.
