This month, VMware announced a pending update to one of their lesser known but one of their more interesting products - Log Insight. This is VMware's solution for log
management and analytics of dynamic hybrid cloud environments. If you aren't yet familiar with the product, it analyzes large amounts of unstructured machine generated log data, and provides
deep, enterprise-wide visibility. It also provides interactive, real-time
search and analytics of that data in a meaningful way so that IT users can
identify and analyze the data, then use that intelligence to proactively enable
service levels and operational efficiencies across dynamic hybrid cloud
environments.
VMware is updating the product to Log Insight 2.5, after only announcing the GA of Log Insight 2.0 back in May. At that time, I was fortunate to speak with Bill Roth, the group product line marketing manager at VMware, who gave me some really great insight into the Log Insight product. If you missed this interview, I highly suggest you read it. It's a great way to catchup and learn more about this product.
In addition to adding new features to Log Insight 2.5, the product also has a new name. This is yet another VMware software product being rolled up into the vRealize
brand.
Key features coming in this new release will include:
- Role Based Access Control
- Inventory Data Integration with vCenter Operations Management Suite
- Internal Load Balancer for Scale Out
- Extension of Universal Collection Framework for Linux
- Hosts Overview Administration
- Internationalization/Localization
- Real-time Dashboard Presentation Mode
The new product is still baking, and
VMware is saying GA won't be until sometime late 2014. So there's still time to
learn about this product and evaluate it.
