2015: The year developers reign as Kings and Queens

As enterprise IT pivots toward mobility and agility, 2015 will prove developers are now the driving force and lead decision makers. This will ultimately lead to new adoption trends throughout the year, as enterprise IT organizations recognize the need to be able to deploy applications across all environments, aka hybrid cloud computing.

The need for enterprise agility becomes imperative.

Over the past few years, we've witnessed enterprise IT more openly adopt and focus on cloud computing and mobility. With this, we've also watched as some do so with more success than others, showcasing the defining factor in enterprise IT is agility. Undoubtedly, 2014 was the year of the developer and this will continue through 2015. This year, we watched as a large shift in power took place, ultimately hailing the developer as King. With this in mind, the trend we are likely to see moving into 2015 is IT organizations working tirelessly to enable and empower developers like never before. This will continue to spotlight the need for agility within the enterprise -- not only within IT practices and infrastructure, but business procedures as well.

The developer is King and he/she will rule technology adoption.

As developers get more comfortable in their new role as decision makers, we will see more pressure placed on enterprise IT to pivot and continue down the path most nimble. This will subsequently lead to a shift in technology adoption, as we've already seen begin this year with the widespread adoption of solutions like Docker. That said, there will be room for other technology providers to seal the gaps left by current solutions, making them truly enterprise-ready. Through trial and error, enterprise IT will begin to see just how important stable and scalable configurations are and how best to support today's developer.

The struggle for hybrid cloud adoption will persist.

When gauging who will win the enterprise cloud wars, there is no denying that enterprise IT has long been keen to using public cloud computing. Nevertheless, in the past year we've seen a strong lean towards private cloud adoption. In the year to come, we will witness an ongoing search for enterprises as they seek solutions to enable them to easily and quickly implement applications deployable into any cloud environment.
