The Cloud Economy Has Arrived

2015 is the year most companies will finally put their fear of using the cloud to rest, and the industry will awaken to a new Cloud Economy.

Flexibility and operational support services will help users decide which cloud environment is right for their needs. However, one size cloud does not fit all.  Decisions will still be made on public vs. private environments (i.e. how does the elasticity of the public cloud model trump the need for optimizing the performance of the underlying hardware). Other decisions will be based on security and compliance needs; what's contained in private clouds may not be appropriate for public cloud environments.

In addition, IT personnel will be looking beyond the underlying cloud infrastructure and seeking a provider such as Cosentry, who offers a more managed and consultative approach to application and system hosting. These more intuitive IT solution providers will shift the conversation from "speeds and feeds" to application performance monitoring while focusing on transparency.

Much of this new Cloud Economy will be driven by CIOs looking to gain efficiencies and decrease operating costs. Their application and system hosting punch list will include check boxes for disaster recovery and managed security services, third-party plug-in applications, design services and overall vision as to the flexibility and scalability of their specific cloud profile. These items are in addition to providing the baseline compliance services to demonstrate adherence and accountability for HIPAA, PCI, SOX and other regulatory mandates.

In essence, the majority of companies will seek hosted services in 2015, as the desire will be to have in-house IT staff concentrate on strategic initiatives and off-load the daily infrastructure and system upkeep to a new breed of trusted, cloud hosting providers.
