In 2015, Don’t Get Left Behind the Cloud

Thanks in no small part to embarrassing celebrity photos stolen, hacked or leaked from clouds to the web this year, when people see the term "cloud," it no longer requires a trip to It's hard to watch primetime TV without seeing ads from IBM and others about the cloud; and even with the high profile leaks, almost every one of us stores pictures in iCloud or the equivalent. Yes, the cloud has inarguably become mainstream and it seems everyone from individuals to enterprises are using it for things like storage, hosting applications - you name it. Entire industries have even become cloud-ified, but a few have yet to make the jump.

Until recently, only a few leading enterprises were leveraging the cloud as a way to gain competitive advantage; but that will change in 2015. In the New Year, we're going to see a shift: namely that enterprises who don't use the cloud will be the rarity - and at a significant competitive disadvantage. How can a financial service company with tons of money under management, but burdened by a legacy data center model, compete with another who is using public or private clouds to increase business agility and decision-making speed? Even industries you might not expect - like oil and gas companies - are using private clouds to run the critical applications that make oil fields more productive and easy to find.

Expect 2015 to be the year to move to the cloud, or be left behind.
