DataGravity Will Extend VMware vRealize Cloud Management Platform with Data-Aware Alerting for Virtualized Environments

DataGravity, creator of the first data-aware storage platform, today announced that VMware will include operational, security and business insights from DataGravity into VMware’s vRealize cloud management platform technology. Customers using both vRealize and DataGravity will accelerate visibility, troubleshooting and resolution of data privacy, security and compliance issues. The DataGravity Discovery Series will be available through advanced management vRealize plug-ins, providing an unprecedented level of sophisticated data analytics at the storage layer for VMware-based infrastructures.

External threats, rogue users and unintended errors can put sensitive data at risk. With data distributed across virtualized infrastructure in hundreds to thousands of virtual machines (VMs), the task of meeting compliance regulations and policies is complex and hard to manage. In recognition of those heightened data security and compliance concerns, DataGravity and VMware will consolidate and analyze system logs, alerts and the data itself to identify and surface risks to data security and simplify data compliance checks. The vRealize API will be available in early 2015 for DataGravity and vRealize users.

“As a Business Transformation Partner, one area Trace3 focuses on is driving the adoption of technology innovation while mitigating risk for our clients,” said Chad Cardenas, CTO at Trace3, a DataGravity and VMware partner. “The combination of the DataGravity data-aware storage with the VMware vRealize cloud management platform brings a powerful combination of operations, compliance and DLP into a single management point. It is a great example of the type of leading-edge solutions that Trace3 looks to provide our clients.”

The Discovery Series is the only storage system that is fully aware of each VM’s contents and user activities, providing 360-degree file-level visibility of virtualized data sets and overcoming a significant data management problem that has long plagued virtualized environments. Discovery Series is combined with vRealize through two plug-ins: DataGravity Management Pack for VMware vRealize Operations and DataGravity Content Pack for VMware vRealize Log Insight.

“VMware’s vRealize cloud management platform can deliver business agility, speed and competitive advantage for companies transforming the delivery of IT services. With the DataGravity Discovery Series plug-in, we’ll be able to provide our mutual customers the ability to drill down into operational and sensitive data alerts so that users can quickly respond to data security, privacy and compliance issues. The combination will give customers a more actionable view of their virtualized and cloud infrastructures. The data will be aligned at the level of each and every VM so there is no guessing about where problems reside,” said Sajai Krishnan, vice president of product marketing, Cloud Management, Business Unit, VMware.

“By combining our DataGravity Discovery Series with VMware vRealize, we’re able to expand the audience that is seeing firsthand the crucial insights that our product offers,” said David Siles, chief technology officer of DataGravity. “In an age of increased security breaches, the value of data-aware storage within the VMware ecosystem is the next step in helping midmarket customers have a better understanding of what their data is saying and where it is hiding.”
