Microsoft Hires Forrester Analyst James Staten as Cloud Chief Strategist

Microsoft has announced that former Vice President & Principal Analyst at Forrester Research, James Staten, will be joining Microsoft as chief strategist for its Cloud and Enterprise group.  In a statement, Microsoft said that Staten will report to Cloud and Enterprise Executive VP, Scott Guthrie, where he will work closely with Scott's leadership team on delivering the most complete set of cloud capabilities and services to customers, small and large.

For those of you traveling in the world of Cloud technology, you already know Staten as a veteran in the industry, covering cloud computing technology for Forrester Research for many years.  And you've probably heard him speak at numerous virtualization and cloud events.  With over 30 years experience in marketing, business development and corporate strategy with large tech companies and start-ups, Staten has spent much of his time at Forrester tracking, trending and forecasting the technology evolutions and usage trends of data center and server technologies.

According to one of his Tweets, Staten will not be relocating to Redmond, but instead will remain in Silicon Valley where he will work with venture capitalists, start-ups and local companies.

Over the years, I've followed Staten via Forrester and enjoyed speaking with him on the phone as a client as well as a reporter.  And I've always enjoyed his presentations at various trade shows.  I wish him well on his new adventure at Microsoft.
