Oracle Announces VirtualBox 5.0 Release Candidate 1

Oracle has announced the availability for download and testing of the VirtualBox 5.0 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) virtualization software platform for Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows.

With this latest version, VirtualBox offers some major improvements and addresses a large number of bugs discovered by the team and reported by users of the previous Beta releases.  But take note, the VirtualBox team expressly asks that you do not use this version in production.  The team writes, "A VirtualBox Release Candidate should be considered a bleeding-edge release meant for early evaluation and testing purposes."

So what's new?

Highlights of this release include better support for HiDPI (High Dots Per Inch) displays on Windows hosts, adjustments to icons and size-hint, NLS (National Language Support) fixes, and support for fast scaling mechanism for integer scale-factors.

Additionally, the release candidate also has fix support for re-attaching a separate virtual machine to a headless VM, addresses an OpenStep issue for PCNet, and adds a resize command to vbox-img.

You can download the binaries here.  And you can find out more about the latest additions and fixes with RC1 here.
