Dropbox
today announced the upcoming availability of Enterprise Mobility
Management (EMM), an important capability for Dropbox for Business
customers. Offered through upcoming partner solutions, EMM will allow
businesses to give their employees safe access to mobile devices for
work through trusted partner applications. Partners including AirWatch
and MobileIron have already committed to enterprise integrations, which
will be available to customers in the coming months.
Dropbox will offer EMM through partner integrations via the Dropbox
for Business API, which helps companies seamlessly integrate Dropbox
for Business into their core IT processes. The company launched the
Dropbox for Business API with 20 industry-leading partners in December
2014. Recent updates to the API include key enhancements for enterprise
— including the recent addition of capabilities for managing groups and
shared folders.
"Companies of all sizes continue to embrace Dropbox for Business because
it’s the best place to get work done together - no matter what device
you’re using," said Rob Baesman, head of product for Dropbox for
Business. “EMM represents an important step for our customers that need
to bolster mobile security and keep company information safe without
impacting the Dropbox experience they know and love.”
To support the mobile platforms that companies and individuals use most,
Dropbox is working with a number of key EMM partners. One way Dropbox is
doing this is by embracing open standards, which allows the company to
meet the needs of customers in many global geographies. For example,
Dropbox is joining AirWatch in their effort to standardize public
applications and development in the enterprise with ACE (App
Configuration for Enterprise), an open standard approach for managing
and securing apps deployed via EMM solutions.
“The next decade of business mobility will be driven by apps that are
consumer simple, enterprise secure,” said Noah Wasmer, vice president of
product management, End-User Computing, VMware. “Dropbox and AirWatch by
VMware share this passion, and we are thrilled to be working closely
with the Dropbox team to accelerate the adoption ACE open standards.
Together we can arrive at the vision of securely and simply deploying
enterprise applications to workers, enabling them to embrace business
mobility instantly.”
In addition to its support of open standards, Dropbox is teaming with
MobileIron to integrate with their platform. MobileIron combined with
Dropbox for Business will allow IT to secure and manage devices, apps
and Dropbox content providing end-users with instant access to corporate
data on a device of their choice.
“Mobile is becoming the primary computing platform for our customers who
want to transform their businesses and real-time access to content is
critical. Our customers need to be able to offer their teams secure
immediate access to their work and data from any device,” said Jesse
Lindeman, Vice President of Product, MobileIron. “Dropbox for Business
is an essential tool part of how many organizations of all sizes get
work done on the go, so we’re delighted to be working with Dropbox on
this integration.”
Dropbox will also partner with leading vendors like Okta, Centrify, and
Knox EMM to build a robust EMM ecosystem that will support mobile
platforms including Apple iOS and Google Android for Work.
“Dropbox is continuing to execute on its Dropbox for Business API
strategy, enabling best-of-breed integrations and customer choice of
solutions,” said Terri McClure, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Strategy
Group. “The addition of EMM integrations will enable Dropbox to extend
its EFSS capabilities to a broader set of organizations and customer use
cases that need secure enterprise mobile management."
Over 100,000 companies rely on Dropbox for Business to securely store
