Egenera Announces Expanded Business Continuity Services

Egenera, a leader in converged infrastructure and cloud management software, today announced that it has formalized its business continuity offerings available within Xterity, its family of managed cloud services, to include Backup as a Service (BaaS) and Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS).

For nearly 15 years Egenera has consistently delivered a best in class cloud management software platform that makes it simple to design, deploy, manage and protect IT as a cloud service. Xterity, Egenera’s managed cloud service, extends and deepens the company’s experience in data protection, provisioning and disaster recovery with business continuity services deployed either on premises or across multiple data centers, making it easy for service providers to offer them to clients.

Key Features

  • Fully Managed Business Continuity Services. As a cloud-based subscription service, customers do not have to purchase any additional hardware or augment the skills set of their existing administrators to support Xterity’s BaaS or DRaaS.
  • Support for Physical and Virtual Servers. Depending on a customer’s needs, data storage may be retained within the primary Xterity location (for on-cloud) or at a secondary site.
  • Hypervisor Agnostic. Users can allocate a physical or virtual server without the need to install hypervisors or third party management tools for virtual machines.
  • Service Assurance. Xterity monitors and maintains the customer’s DR solution to ensure availability of data protection services when needed and also orchestrates tests for service assurance (e.g. configuring networks, storage infrastructure and computing infrastructure, and notifies the customer when the recovery site is available for use).

“The integrity of any customer’s business depends on the availability of their applications and infrastructure. For service providers, any interruption quickly translates into lost revenue, lower profit or even the loss of their customers,” said Pete Manca, Egenera CEO. “Xterity enables resellers to confidently offer backup and DR services that provide protection against failures and disasters. And because there are no long term commitments, clients have the flexibility to select only the infrastructure that is critical to their operations for recovery.”

Xterity is hosted in Equinix’s world-class facilities, which are designed, built and operated to meet the highest standards worldwide and meet end customer performance and security requirements. As a result, applications can run in nearby regional networks to ensure that customers’ latency and data residency needs are met. An additional facility, hosted by CITADEL 100, is located in the National Digital Campus at Citywest in Dublin, Ireland.

Launched in April 2015, Xterity is a white-label wholesale IaaS service that provides resellers with the ability to design, price, bring to market and manage diverse cloud based as-a-Service solutions for their end user customers.
