Midokura, the global innovator in software network virtualization, today
announced that leading online retailer Overstock.com has selected its
award-winning Midokura Enterprise MidoNet (MEM) technology to complement
its OpenStack private cloud. MEM is a network virtualization platform
that provides a software layer directly within existing physical network
hardware, turning physical machines into a virtual platform that can
scale to hundreds of thousands of virtual ports.
"Overstock.com is an impressive addition to Midokura's customer
roster, marking a monumental achievement for us," said Dan Dumitriu, CEO
of Midokura. "We are thrilled to see our Midokura Enterprise MidoNet
solution help Overstock.com succeed with its expansion, as well as meet
massive requests from its global consumers -- without compromising
control and flexibility over its networks."
Overstock.com has recently augmented the physical infrastructure that
supports its flagship ecommerce operations with an on premise OpenStack
cloud. The retail giant selected Midokura as its network virtualization
technology of choice due to its effectiveness with OpenStack and
because it was so impressed with the caliber and dedication of Midokura
engineers around the globe. The same engineers that build MidoNet and
contribute to OpenStack Neutron have the added goal of delighting
customers, merely satisfying is not enough.
"The engineers at Midokura are fantastic to work with and feel more
like an extension of my team then they do a vendor," said Mike Smith,
Principal Linux Systems Engineer, Overstock.com. "They have very
innovative ways of handling support that put a lot of their technical
resources on three continents immediately accessible when we need them.
They were very flexible and willing to let us do our evaluation and
implementation the way we wanted to do it."
What's more, ChatOps tools vastly improved Overstock.com's
inter-company communication and made it easier for engineer-to-engineer
interactions between the Midokura and Overstock.com teams. The
technology has brought down the usual company walls and has helped
create a dedicated following for the MidoNet technology globally.
Integrating with leading cloud platforms, including OpenStack, MEM is
a software-based, highly distributed network virtualization system that
allows enterprises and service providers to build, run and manage
virtual networks with agility and increased control. Using industry
standards and leveraging existing physical infrastructure, MEM reduces
costs and improves stability, scalability and performance of networks.
Midokura continues to see overwhelming demand for its award-winning
MEM and open source MidoNet technology worldwide. Midokura is the
trusted network virtualization vendor of choice for large-scale
OpenStack deployments for leading organizations, including Blue Jeans
Network, Dell, Colt Technology Services Co. Ltd. and Fujitsu Limited.
