Sphere 3D Corp., a virtualization and data management solutions provider,
today announced the general availability of its G-Series appliances and
support for customers looking to virtualize their production Windows
applications and expedite their move to Windows 10 devices.
The G-Series appliance is optimized for simplicity, flexibility and
scalability. Through Glassware 2.0, a Microsoft Windows based container
technology, organizations looking to migrate to Windows 10 end user
devices can quickly deploy a complete solution for virtualizing 16-bit,
32-bit or 64-bit applications with their native functionality intact.
End users can access the containerized applications from any cloud
connected device (iOS, Android or Windows), through a lightweight
downloadable app or simply from a browser. The G-Series eliminates the
complex tasks of designing, implementing, and maintaining application
hosting environments and provides breakthrough application session
density and scale compared to traditional hypervisor-based
virtualization solutions.
"Today's globally-distributed businesses with mobile workforces need IT
solutions that deliver a flexible and secure environment while
maintaining productivity," said Mark Bowker, Senior Analyst, Enterprise
Strategy Group, Inc. "Sphere 3D's Glassware 2.0 Windows containerization
technology allows the modernization and mobilization of applications
without the need to invest in new applications development and
infrastructure, which is commonly required when implementing traditional
hypervisor-based virtualization solutions. Also, I believe the
simplicity of its application virtualization methodology, along with the
ease it provides for mobilizing legacy applications, makes the G-Series
a game changer."
As of August 26th, 2015, Microsoft reported that Windows 10 had been installed on 75 million devices on its way to the Microsoft stated goal of 1 billion Windows 10 devices globally within 3 years. With over 70%
of current Windows devices running Windows 7 or older operating
systems, as sited by netapplications.com, the move to Windows 10 will
require a migration plan for the millions of users currently utilizing
legacy applications. The G-Series of appliances represents a simple
approach to meeting this need.
"All reports point to the adoption of Windows 10 coming on like
gangbusters in the first few weeks since its introduction," said Peter
Tassiopoulos, President of Sphere 3D Corp. "With that as the backdrop,
the need for a solution that allows applications to live in the cloud so
that they can be consumed as needed has never been greater. With our
Glassware 2.0 powered solutions, we fill that need and provide an
immediate solution to extend the life of current applications
indefinitely."
