Oracle has released an updated version of its virtualization platform, VirtualBox 5.0 Maintenance Release 6.
This
release is a major improvement which include a large number of changes
and bug fixes:
- Fixed a number of GUI issues, including fixing a crash during VM start if an early error message needs to be shown, for example Linux kernel modules not present
- Bridged Networking: fixed handling of guest DHCP requests without UDP checksum when bridging to a wireless interface
- API: properly restore NAT port forwarding rules when reverting to a snapshot
- Windows hosts: fixed a small memory leak in the Windows host interface
driver (VBoxNetAdp) which caused a BSOD if the driver verifier is
enabled
- Windows Additions: fixed video playback with VLC and Windows Media Player when the WDDM driver is used and 3D is not used
- Windows Additions: prevent a possible VLC crash when the WDDM driver is used and 3D is enabled by implementing YV12 surfaces
According to the announcement, Oracle made major improvements with Microsoft Windows 10 (as a guest and host platform) and, at the same time, made further important
steps on the new OS X platform, recently released by Apple. MAC OS X 10.11 El-Capitan, starting from the VirtualBox
5.0.6 release, is officially supported as a host platform.
