Building on Secure Cloud Storage Offering, Authentic8 Expands Content Rendering Capabilities Within Secure Virtual Browser
Authentic8, maker of Silo, the cloud-based secure browser for business, has enhanced its document preview capability to include file types of common productivity applications, including word processor, spreadsheet, presentation documents, and more.

Browsers cannot natively render non-web file formats such as Microsoft Office documents, yet users regularly need to review them online. This latest enhancement to Silo allows users to view these various files securely in a Silo browser tab without the risk or effort of bringing them into their local environment. All data rendering is done securely in the cloud, with only display data reaching the client device.

"Office files, like PDF documents, can include malicious executables or scripts which can lead to exploits," said Ramesh Rajagopal, co-founder and Head of Product at Authentic8. "This malicious code, combined with a vulnerability in the application that renders the document, can lead to exploits that bypass traditional enterprise controls. Using Silo to save, preview and convert benign copies creates a perfect insulation layer between the user and the influx of untrustworthy or unknown file objects."

In addition to rendering in a browser tab, these new capabilities build on Authentic8 Cloud Storage. By taking advantage of Silo's integrated, cloud-based encrypted storage layer, files can be saved and reviewed without exposing the client device or network. And if the file needs to be converted to an alternate format, Silo works with web-based file conversion utilities, or can save any previewed file as a new and known-clean PDF file.

The result is one-click access to Office data directly within Silo for users, and admins can enable access to information without compromising their corporate data controls.

These features are available to Silo and and Cloud Storage users immediately and at no additional cost. Supported file types include: Microsoft Office, Apache OpenOffice, CSV, as well as TIFF images. Contact Authentic8 for more information.
