Evaluator Group and IOmark announce benchmark results
for Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) Hyper Converged 250 and the Hyper
Converged 250 with HPE StoreVirtual 4335 Hybrid Storage achieving 160
and 208 VMs respectively.
The application mix of IOmark-VM includes databases, webservers and
Exchange mail servers, plus additional hypervisor operations. Per the
benchmark specifications, the HPE configurations achieved a mean read
response time of 3.79 milliseconds for the HPE Hyper Converged 250 and
4.47 milliseconds for the Hyper Converged 250 with HPE StoreVirtual 4335
Hybrid Storage. Mean write response times were 10.78 and 11.97
milliseconds, respectively.
IOmark-VM-HC is a benchmark that certifies HyperConverged systems for
virtual server results. The measurement criteria are storage
performance, with the restriction that all storage workloads must be
supported by the tested Hyper-Converged system. While CPU and memory
are important, Evaluator Group testing has shown the differences are
minimal when comparing systems that are configured with similar CPU and
memory. The gating item for most workloads is the storage system and
software performance.
"The HPE Hyper Converged 250 exceeded previous IOmark-VM-HC results by 11%," said Russ Fellows, Senior Partner of Evaluator Group.
"We then tested the unique, scale-out storage aspects of the Hyper
Converged 250 by adding a StoreVirtual 4335 Hybrid Storage system to the
standalone hyper-converged system enabling an additional 30% greater
number of virtual machines, highlighting the ability to independently
scale storage capacity and performance with HPE Hyper Converged
systems."
HPE Hyper Converged 250 is a virtualization platform for VMware
vSphere that combines compute, high-availability storage, hypervisor,
and management capabilities into a single, scale-out appliance. The
2U/4-node form factor is targeted for use by midsize and enterprise
remote office/branch office customers to virtualize a variety of
workloads.
The results are audited to ensure uniform testing and reporting of
results, enabling IT users the ability to compare products using metrics
that matter; price, capacity and application performance.
IOmark-VM-HC: The application mix for Virtual Machine benchmark
includes databases, webservers and Exchange mail servers plus
hyper-visor operations consisting of a VM clone, deploy, boot, software
upgrade, and storage migration (aka Storage vMotion) between storage
volumes.
The IOmark-VM-HC benchmark requires the following to achieve passing results:
For the steady-state workload:
- Total test time is 1 hour, with a measured interval of 30 minutes
- Seventy percent of response times for I/O's must not exceed 20ms
- A minimum number of storage vMotion and VM clone operations must also be completed during a 1 hour test
