vArmour Announces Simple Three-Step Application-Aware Micro-Segmentation
vArmour, the data center and cloud security company and leader in application-aware micro-segmentation with advanced security analytics, today announced the latest release of its flagship DSS Distributed Security System that delivers the industry's simplest, integrated security solution to prevent, detect and remediate laterally-moving advanced persistent threats (APT). Using vArmour DSS, organizations can deploy application-aware micro-segmentation in three simple steps and in less than thirty minutes in order to reduce attack surfaces by separating their most sensitive assets (i.e. healthcare and financial records), as well as respond to real-time incidents. These easy-to-use security controls are integrated with vArmour's application-layer analytics, so organizations can see and stop APTs quicker and easier than ever before through a single, software-based system.

With IT rapidly evolving, led by the example of major cloud providers like Amazon, Microsoft and Google, organizations have embraced multi-cloud infrastructure and now expect all technical resources to be delivered in an easily consumed and cost-efficient model. Improving the economics of security is key for organizations to battle the rising costs of cybercrimes, estimated to rise from $500 billion today to $2 trillion by 2019. At the same time, organizations cannot compromise on security capabilities to detect and respond to APTs often caused by hackers or malware, which have the highest costs associated with remediation. These factors are driving organizations to adopt new, software-based approaches to security that are a better fit than traditional hardware-centric solutions to secure their multi-cloud environments.

"Cloud security must adapt to an environment where workloads are decoupled from the physical hardware and delivered from a fabric of pooled resources," wrote Alan Waite, Research Director in the Gartner for Technical Professionals Security and Risk Management Strategies team. "As you plan your security approach to your private cloud, you can also lay the groundwork for managing workloads in the public cloud. One way to do this is to provide security as a set of on-demand, scalable services."

Results from a recent survey by ESG and vArmour support this approach to deliver security-as-a-service; the top three most desired cloud security attributes are: extensibility (across private and public clouds); scalability (to match cloud resources), and infrastructure agnosticism (independence from underlying IT infrastructure). In addition, organizations report lowering costs (both CapEx and OpEx) as two of the top three reasons for adopting cloud computing -- making cost an imperative factor to consider when purchasing tools to secure these dynamic environments. The combination of simplicity and consumption-based software economics that are core to IT-as-a-Service models is now possible for cloud security through vArmour DSS, increasing the speed and financial advantages for organizations in all verticals.

"Given organizations' adoption of cloud architectures and the consistent rise of attacks, more advanced security tactics, such as micro-segmentation, are necessary to lower the risks and costs associated with cybercrime," stated Jon Oltsik, ESG senior principal analyst and the founder of the firm's cybersecurity practice. "In a recent survey we did with security professionals that will be published later this year, we found that the majority of respondents (51 percent) listed workload segmentation as a high priority for their cloud security architecture, with 81 percent of respondents planning to deploy micro-segmentation in the next six to 12 months. These micro-segmentation technologies must be simple to use and economical to acquire and maintain, to match the expectations of modern IT delivery models."
