WinDocks announced today the release of WinDocks 1.0, the first
production released Docker engine for Windows. The release provides
Windows developers, SQL Server DBAs, and operations personnel the
opportunity to begin Docker-based development on Windows Server 2012,
with .NET, SQL Server, and Windows application containers.
WinDocks
1.0 is the culmination of years of development, four months of Beta
testing, and collaboration with technology leaders NetApp, Cisco, and
others. The WinDocks - NetApp collaboration has focused on use of Public
cloud for application development and test, while ensuring security and
control of enterprise data. A containerized application can be
provisioned in the cloud, using a private ~1 TB database, in just 45
seconds. WinDocks containers are lightweight and a team is supported
with identical container environments on a single VM.
"The
combination of SQL Server containers and NetApp storage using
FlexClone(R) technology is a powerful combination" said Bruce Burns,
Vice President of the NetApp Cloud Business Group. "Enabling SQL Server
customers to instantly launch new instances of their workloads, complete
with writable snapshots of their data, drives agility and innovation
for DevOps teams. "
The Windows community is asking for Docker
support on Windows Server 2012 with SQL Server containers. Industry
surveys show that Windows Server 2012 will continue to grow
share-of-usage for the next 3-4 years, and most organizations don't view
Windows Server 2016 as a practical near-term solution.
WinDocks is already used for a variety of use-cases:
- WinDocks
containers are an agile business infrastructure, providing portability
of applications between public cloud and on-premise use. WinDocks
containers deliver an average of 3-5X greater server utilization,
resulting in VM consolidation with reduced license and support costs.
- SQL Server containers are used for agile development and test, read-only analytics, and support for SaaS operations
- SQL Server containers support varied user configurations for Microsoft Dynamics.
- WinDocks containers support Jenkins for Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment.
WinDocks
is available in two versions. WinDock Standard includes .NET and
Windows application containers. WinDocks SQL+ adds SQL Server support.
Developers licenses are available for $249/year.
WinDocks is also available for a no-cost, cloud hosted Test Drive. Visit http://www.windocks.com to sign up.
