ViewSonic Corp., a
leading global provider of visual solutions products, today announced
its new line of thin client products, including the SC-T25,
built upon the latest Raspberry Pi 3 hardware platform. Along with the
new SC-T36 and SC-T48 models, the SC-T25 expands ViewSonic’s
award-winning line of Citrix-certified virtual desktop infrastructure
(VDI) products to include options starting at an ESP of $99.00.
Recognizing the phenomenal success of the Raspberry Pi platform,
ViewSonic partnered with both the Raspberry Pi Foundation and
virtualization industry leader Citrix Systems, Inc., to develop an
affordable solution for high-performance desktop virtualization. One of
the most economical VDI products available today, the SC-T25 meets
computing needs for organizations ranging from SMB to enterprise,
delivering a full desktop experience ideal for industries such as
healthcare and finance.
In the past four years, over 8 million Raspberry Pi devices have been
sold. The third-generation Raspberry Pi 3, announced in February 2016,
offers an even greater combination of performance, versatility and
affordability. Engineered with Pi 3 core specifications, the SC-T25 is
powered by a Broadcom® 64-bit quad-core ARM processor. Wireless LAN and
Bluetooth networking support, 1GB memory and HDMI video output provide
connectivity to support nearly any application.
All three new products are Citrix certified and optimized for HDX
technology, a proven enterprise solution utilized daily by millions of
users worldwide. The SC-T25, SC-T36 and SC-T48 offer superior 2D/3D
graphics capabilities for a high-definition computing experience within
a virtual enterprise.
“By bringing the SC-T25, SC-T36 and SC-T48 to market, ViewSonic is
ensuring one of the industry’s lowest cost-per-seat solutions for
businesses and enterprises that have not been able to fully implement
their VDI deployment,” said Mike Holstein, vice president of business
development and emerging technologies for ViewSonic Americas. “This
family of thin clients allows users to access the benefits of a
VDI-based system, providing an extremely cost-effective solution that
benefits everyone from everyday knowledge workers to power users.”
Bringing together cutting-edge hardware and proven virtualization
technology, these new products offer the computing power, security and
scalability that businesses demand. The ViewSonic Thin OS (VTOS), a
secure Linux® operating system designed specifically for thin client
applications, and the easy-to-use ViewSonic Device Manager (VDM 3.0)
software round out a complete solution for virtually effortless
implementation.
“Here at Raspberry Pi, driving down the cost of computer hardware
remains our biggest imperative, so we are very excited to join ViewSonic
as they launch the HDX Ready Raspberry Pi. This innovation introduces a
low-cost user device for Citrix’s industry-leading virtual app and
desktop technology. Citrix’s reputation of enhancing data security,
simplifying IT management and delivering a great user experience will
help demolish barriers to cost-effective, high-performance computing,
making VDI accessible to a whole generation of first-time users which is
exactly what Raspberry Pi is striving to achieve,” said Eben Upton, CEO,
Raspberry Pi Foundation.
ViewSonic’s new family of thin clients will start shipping in July 2016.
The SC-T25 has an ESP of $99.99, the SC-T36 has an ESP of $149.99, and
the ESP for the SC-T48 is $199.99.
