Bigstep,
the big data cloud provider, and Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu,
the leading platform and operating system for container, cloud, and
scale-out computing, today announced their partnership to provide
certified images and support of Ubuntu on Bigstep Metal Cloud.
Bigstep will now offer certified Ubuntu Server images optimized for performance, security, and dependability under Canonical's Certified Public Cloud programme, and will facilitate single-point support on Bigstep Metal Cloud. Canonical's Ubuntu Advantage enterprise support for Ubuntu will be available soon through the Bigstep console.
Ubuntu
brings economic and technical scalability to the cloud. Whether the aim
is to deploy a complex big data architecture or just a single Hadoop
cluster, Ubuntu on Bigstep Metal Cloud delivers the best value scale-out
performance in an enterprise Linux platform.
"The
world of Big Data is a perfect example of ‘Big Software' - modern
applications made up of many interdependent and fast-moving services in a
single, complex architecture", said Udi Nachmany, head of Canonical's
public cloud programme. "The highly efficient provisioning that Bigstep
offer on exceptional physical infrastructure, coupled with the optimal
OS user experience of official Ubuntu images and Canonical professional
support, promise to be a truly compelling combination for people wanting
fast access to very fast infrastructure at scale."
"Offering
certified images of Ubuntu on Bigstep Metal Cloud is a crucial step in
our journey toward transforming the economics of big data. Canonical
shares our vision of providing innovators with state-of-the-art, yet
affordable technology they require to thrive," said Bigstep's Founder
and CEO Lucas Roh. "Through this partnership, our customers now benefit
from a tailor-made development platform and a single point of contact
for Ubuntu Server on Bigstep Metal Cloud."
The
certified Ubuntu images provided by Canonical are tailored for the
high-performance, bare-metal cloud and for the big data applications
tightly integrated by Bigstep, retaining the guarantee of compatibility
with Ubuntu kernel and security updates over the life of the platform.
This partnership brings the agility of cloud, with end-to-end automation
and seamless software orchestration, to the high-performance hardware
essential for effective big data architectures.
