Expect Enterprises to Adopt Proactive Application Performance Monitoring

Hybrid cloud adoption to retain momentum

Last year we had predicted that hybrid cloud adoption will increasingly find favor among large enterprises, and that many enterprises were evaluating a hybrid cloud strategy. This trend is expected to continue in 2017 despite some of the challenges associated with hybrid clouds. The move to the hybrid cloud is being driven by CIOs and IT managers who understand the ways in which hybrid clouds can allow them to sustain proper control of their company's data across a broad range of business situations.

Container technologies in production environments

More and more organizations will start to run container technologies in production environments as opposed to previous years where the technology was mostly used in development, testing, QA or lab environments. The key reasons behind this shift are to increase in developer efficiency and support microservices. The coming also should see more enterprises willing to make substantial financial commitments on the technology. Docker will remain the dominant container engine technology, and Kubernetes should continue to be the top choice for container orchestration and management.

Multi-vendor cloud environments could become the norm

As companies move more workloads to the cloud, a single cloud environment may not make sense for every application. In fact, a multi-vendor cloud environment could become the norm in many enterprises in 2017. Managing a blended cloud environment can become a challenge for IT teams. The creation of solutions and tools to manage a multi-cloud environment should be on the agenda of most IT teams.

The rise of IoT

Internet of Things (IoT) is a growing concept in terms of exposure and implementation. Gartner has predicted that 21 billion IoT devices will be in use worldwide by 2020. As IoT gains traction, enterprises will bring more connected devices online as well as deal with massive amounts of data that stream into their big data stores.

The adoption of all the above-mentioned technologies will mean that IT teams will have to deal with additional layers of complexities on top of existing IT management challenges. To address this performance challenge, enterprise IT teams should look to implement proactive application performance monitoring to gain end-to-end performance visibility into their distributed applications and the underlying infrastructure elements.
