DataGravity,
creator of data-aware security solutions, today announced DataGravity
for Virtualization, a product suite that protects data in the
virtualized environments of small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
DataGravity is the first organization to offer behavior-based data
protection and visibility into unstructured data across virtual
environments, which allows users to combat threats in real time and
redefine data security, protection and management.
Virtualization
enhances operational efficiency while increasing data mobility, meaning
sensitive information can quickly move throughout data center and cloud
environments. Unlike other products, which can lose track of virtual
disks or entire virtual machines (VMs) as they move around, DataGravity
identifies risks before they happen - meaning data security is always
on. With an in-depth understanding of people, content and activities
associated with data, including full-text indexing for unstructured
data, DataGravity users can proactively address threats, unearth
patterns and reduce security risks before they wreak havoc on the
business.
"By
integrating with our VM infrastructure, DataGravity gathers information
and insights about how to best secure and protect VMs," said Granville
Harris, IT director for the city of Upper Arlington, Ohio. "This
includes the ability to take VM or storage snapshots when anomalous user
behavior, such as ransomware, is observed."
With
support for VMware vSphere and VMware vSAN, the DataGravity for
Virtualization suite provides advanced data protection that responds to
user activities in the environment. The software's sensitive data
detection acts as a continuous MRI on an organization's data and
provides detailed analytics and insights into virtual environments.
Users can identify the root cause of suspicious activity and security
breaches, locate vulnerabilities, track sensitive data as it moves
throughout a system, and perform fine-grained data recovery and
restoration.
"VMware
vSphere and vSAN users can benefit from a comprehensive, behavior-based
security strategy designed for today's virtualized environments," said
Lee Caswell, vice president of storage and availability products at
VMware. "DataGravity for Virtualization delivers security at the VM and
data levels while uncovering insights that help improve the overall
business. This approach is particularly compelling for organizations
looking to leverage the power of data analytics and minimize security
risks."
"DataGravity provides a way for organizations to secure
and manage data in a virtualized world," said Paula Long, CEO and
co-founder of DataGravity. "Before you can effectively manage and
safeguard data, you need to know what's in it - a core requirement that
many of today's security solutions have missed. By aligning IT and
security, we can protect data where it lives, so companies can be
proactive about attacks such as ransomware and leverage the recovery
tools built into virtualized environments to recover to their proper
operational states."
