Stratodesk announced today that ViewSonic has chosen Stratodesk NoTouch software as the operating system for a new HDX-ready Raspberry Pi thin-client architecture. The architecture is implemented as the ViewSonic SC-T25 HDX Pi, a fully integrated high-performance thin client that will begin shipping June 1, 2017. At an estimated retail price of less than $100, the new thin client shatters previous cost barriers to large-scale enterprise-level Virtualized Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) deployments.

Raspberry Pi-well known as a compact, affordable, single-board computing platform created by the Raspberry Pi Foundation-has not commonly been considered for enterprise-level applications. However, the SC-T25 developers have enhanced the platform to enable the thin client to perform on par with VDI endpoints that cost four times as much.

"Stratodesk NoTouch is already widely known as a highly robust and cost-effective VDI endpoint repurposing solution," says Chris Fleck, vice president, Emerging Solutions at Citrix Systems. "We are pleased to welcome Stratodesk into the HDX Pi eco-system which should accelerate the adoption of this highly innovative endpoint platform."

Integrated into the SC-T25 endpoint, Stratodesk HDX-ready NoTouch software offers Citrix users the following enterprise-level features:

• Automated endpoint rollout, saving time and minimizing human error
• Group-based management with multi-level inheritance
• Help desk support
• Enterprise Wi-Fi (802.1x) and network security support
• Optimization for "Skype for Business" audio/video conferencing
• Authentication and single sign-on (SSO) support
• Dual-monitor support

Stratodesk CEO Emanuel Pirker sees immediate application for the innovative VDI endpoint solution. "In large healthcare environments, for example, the SC-T25 client with integrated NoTouch offers an affordable way to roll out secure desktop environments across numerous shared mobile endpoints, driving noticeable improvements in staff productivity, data security and patient care," Pirker says.

Erik Willey, product marketing director at ViewSonic, explains how its new thin client can benefit from the Stratodesk software: "By integrating Stratodesk's NoTouch software into our SC-T25 HDX Pi, ViewSonic is able to deliver an ultra-high performance, yet highly configurable solution," Willey says. "This provides for a very cost-effective delivery of virtual workspace computing power, security and scalability."

Customers that have previously purchased an SC-T25 thin client will be eligible for a free upgrade to Stratodesk NoTouch, along with one year of software maintenance and support.
