Per Gartner, network solutions for enterprise data centers are
evolving to support for better agility and cloud architectures.
Enterprise I&O leaders should evaluate multiple vendors, and focus
on comparing architectures, software features and infrastructure
integration capabilities, not hardware specifications.
"We consider our positioning in the Visionaries Quadrant by Gartner
as confirmation of our mission to provide next-gen networking solutions
as customers transform their data centers," said Douglas Murray, CEO,
Big Switch Networks. "Big Cloud Fabric's operational simplicity and ease
of management delivers next-generation network innovation to any
organization, and we are honored to be recognized as a Visionary."
Big Cloud Fabric is a next-generation data center switching fabric
inspired by the design principles hyper-scale operators like Facebook
and Google have developed to build intelligent, agile and highly
flexible network architectures. It leverages software-defined networking
(SDN) principles to architect a redundant logical switch architecture
consisting of hundreds of switches and deliver intent-based networking
workflows to streamline and accelerate IT operations. Customers benefit
from unprecedented application agility due to automation,
order-of-magnitude operational simplification due to SDN management,
deep visibility through built-in telemetry and analytics and significant
cost reduction due to hardware/software disaggregation. Big Cloud
Fabric supports all workloads via built-in integration that includes,
VMware SDDC, Red Hat OpenStack, and container environments, such as
Docker, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift and Mesosphere. BCF can be
deployed in existing data centers as a new pod or can interact with
traditional networks. The scale-out fabric operates like one redundant
logical switch, is fully resilient with no single point of failure, and
supports headless mode operations. Customers implement BCF for multiple
use cases including: IaaS cloud, hyper-converged infrastructures,
network function virtualization, cloud-native applications, big data,
desktop virtualization and IP storage.
"We are thrilled to be included in the Visionaries Quadrant. At Big
Switch, our goal is to disrupt the status quo of networking with order
of magnitude improvements in network intelligence, agility, and
flexibility while lowering CapEx costs by up to 50%," said Prashant
Gandhi, Chief Product Officer, Big Switch Networks. "We feel being
positioned in the Visionaries Quadrant further validates our innovative
and differentiated approach to next-generation data center networking,
based on SDN fabric control software and open networking hardware, and
the broad-based acceptance of Big Cloud Fabric by mainstream enterprise
and service provider customers."
Organizations around the world continue to select Big Switch for data
center modernization. In 2016 the company more than doubled its
customer count and is on track to do the same for 2017. In 2016, Big
Switch established a dedicated presence in China, EMEA and ANZ regions,
in addition to its subsidiary in Japan, to support global demand for its
products. Additionally, Big Switch has more than a dozen customers who
have purchased $1M+ in recurring software licenses. Customers are
located in more than 25 countries, in verticals that include:
technology, financial services, government, retail, automotive, media,
telecom and higher education.
