StarWind Manager: The All-In-One Infrastructure Management Platform

Article Written by Alex Khorolets

In this article, I wanted to shed some light on StarWind All-In-One Infrastructure Management Platform called StarWind Manager.

As you know, these days many storage vendors continuously develop new data storage technologies. This provides multiple options for customers to choose among different solutions in various prices categories.

Some of these well-known solutions, such as Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct and Ceph provide customers with an impressive set of features. However, there are some restrictions in management components of these solutions.

Ceph has been developed as an autonomous system that requires minimal attention from administrators, though users will spend a large amount of time for Ceph to be deployed and configured from scratch. Microsoft S2D is also splitting its management capabilities across the Windows platform, so it becomes uncomfortable for users to configure and maintain S2D cluster from a single management interface.

Functionality and features

StarWind Manager has been designed to provide administrators with a unified user interface allowing them to deploy, manage and monitor StarWind Virtual SAN, Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct and Ceph-based clusters.

Additionally, if you are looking for a solution that can significantly simplify the common system administration and maintenance duties, that's the case for StarWind Manager to come in handy. In this scenario, StarWind Manager essentially works as a web-based control panel giving you the possibilities to monitor the main aspects of your infrastructure, such as storage performance, network throughput and latency, CPU and RAM utilization.

The functionality of StarWind Manager helps System Administrator to determine critical events or hardware issues shortly after they have appeared. It can be used to take an eye on the resources that are available in customer's environment, thus avoiding "running-out" situations.

StarWind Manager can be easily adapted to any specific configuration. This means you can create and configure additional plug-ins and simply add them to StarWind Manager interface if required. Any user can pick an optimal set of necessary features and combine them with an existing environment to meet the requirements for the solution. More to say, StarWind Manager UI was also optimized for mobile web browsers.

It is worth mentioning that the initial StarWind Manager release comes as a "Preview Version" which has only the monitoring functionality. The deployment and configuration options for Microsoft S2D, StarWind Virtual SAN and Ceph-based clusters as well as other features will be added after the release. The StarWind Manager roadmap is available on the corresponding product page on StarWind's Website:

StarWind Manager will allow users to completely control their StarWind Virtual SAN, Microsoft S2D and Ceph-based infrastructures from a unified web-based GUI. In addition, StarWind Manager delivers a convenient and flexible way of infrastructure monitoring utilizing configurable plug-ins and dashboards.

Simplicity, comprehensive flexibility of the solution, ability to control the entire environment alongside with the multiplatform architecture and customizable extensions provide the great tool to deploy, manage and monitor the IT infrastructure.
