PKWARE Brings Persistent Encryption to Turnkey Key Management with Smartcrypt Appliances

PKWARE, a global leader in data security, today announced the launch of four virtual and hardware key management appliances. The appliances will allow for simplified deployment and enhanced security features of Smartcrypt Enterprise Manager, the central component of PKWARE's Smartcrypt platform. Smartcrypt Appliances are the only key management appliances that have out-of-the-box support for persistent data encryption and data discovery, as well as offering a full-entropy random number generator (RNG).

"In an era of unprecedented cyberattacks and breaches, companies are facing increasing demands to secure their sensitive data, but may not have the resources to connect their key management software to their own app and database infrastructures," said Matt Little, chief product officer at PKWARE. "Smartcrypt Appliances are plug-and-play offerings that make it easy for organizations to implement enterprise-wide encryption policies."

Smartcrypt Appliances, developed in partnership with QuintessenceLabs, allow security managers to define encryption policies, monitor encryption and decryption activity across the entire organization, and store keys in FIPS 140-2 Level 3-verified hardware security modules (HSMs). The appliances offer automatic failover, high availability, support for encryption on servers and databases and full key lifecycle and policy management, in addition to quantum random number generation capabilities. True random number generation helps ensure the strength of encryption keys and has become an important consideration for government agencies and financial services organizations.

In addition to random number generation, Smartcrypt Appliances deliver several other unique capabilities:

  • Support for persistent encryption, which remains with data wherever it is shared or stored
  • Out-of-the box support for encryption on endpoint devices such as desktops, laptops and phones (Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android)
  • Support for automated data discovery and remediation
  • Automated key management that eliminates the complexity of key generation, exchange, synchronization and rotation

PKWARE's Smartcrypt Appliances are now available in four versions, including a virtual appliance and three hardware configurations.
