Onward and Upward - The Continued Rise of the Public Cloud

Here are the trends to look out for in 2018.

As 2017 comes to a close, public cloud adoption will continue to rise in 2018. Consumers of the public cloud will push back on the cost as enterprises realize that public cloud is not cheaper than private cloud. Public cloud vendors will either adjust their cost model, or IT will look for new ways to find the cloud services it needs at a more reasonable price.

Other managed service providers will be looking for more automation in 2018. As MSPs look to take on more and more customers, they need to automate management to extend those economies of scale. Developers are going to take the lead looking for solutions where everything that is underneath Kubernetes, Chef or Puppet is managed by someone else. Developers just want the resources they need to develop and test quickly and efficiently - they want agility and flexibility but don't want to be burdened with management, maintenance or anything else.

In 2018, breaches and attacks are only going to increase and viruses will continue to get more sophisticated. Application development will begin to come with specific safeguards and protections. Security tools that are layered into the infrastructure are still needed, they just aren't going to be enough as more and more apps adopt the cloud model.
