Taoglas,
a leading provider of IoT and automotive antenna and RF solutions, in
partnership with Adant, a leading provider of smart antenna technology,
today at Mobile World Congress 2018 announced the launch of Taoglas
Shift, a software-defined antenna system that changes the economics of
next-generation wireless networks by extending coverage and increasing
throughput by up to 100 percent. Using Adant's advanced beam-steering
technology, the Taoglas Shift antenna dynamically adapts its radiation
pattern in real time to increase the link quality and deliver the best
signal propagation and reception for mobile and stationary applications,
both indoor and outdoor, in industries such as retail, agriculture,
transportation and others.
The Taoglas Shift antenna intelligently seeks out and finds the best
signal on a regular basis, and then tunes the antenna in real time to
achieve the highest throughput-reducing the need for redundant carriers
to ensure strong coverage. The antenna and LTE module are combined in a
single enclosure for fast solution deployment.
"As the Internet of Things (IoT) continues to grow, so too does the
demand for wireless data. In the past, the only surefire way to increase
coverage and throughput of wireless networks was to add infrastructure,"
said Ronan Quinlan, co-CEO and co-founder of Taoglas. "As 5G networks
emerge, the problem multiplies, with base stations and access points
needed every few hundred feet to ensure coverage. Taoglas Shift can be
deployed with today's wireless networks to solve coverage gaps and
performance issues, and will also be a huge benefit to 5G networks as
they emerge. It completely changes the economics of wireless networks by
delivering increased throughput and coverage with less equipment."
Additional capabilities of Taoglas Shift include:
-
Directional beams help mitigate interference from other co-located
users
-
High gain helps increase signal-to-noise ratio, improving link
reliability in desired direction, and also extending coverage
-
Use of spatial multiplexing in 2X2 MIMO linearly increases throughput
by switching to most optimal antenna configuration
-
Total Radiated Power (TRP) and Total Isotropic Sensitivity
(TIS) >3 dB is achieved with respect to a static omnidirectional
antenna system of comparable size
"We are pleased to work with Taoglas to contribute with our smart
antenna technology to the development of the Taoglas Shift antenna,"
said Daniele Piazza, co-founder and CEO, Adant Technologies. "By
utilizing advanced software algorithms that dynamically and repeatably
seek out the best signal, the Shift antenna allows companies to
dramatically expand throughput and coverage, helping to power their
business-critical wireless and IoT applications."
