OTOY Joins the Content Delivery and Security Association (CDSA) to Encourage Industry Standards for Decentralized Media Production and Distribution

GPU-Cloud graphics firm OTOY has joined the Content Delivery and Security Association (CDSA) as an Advisory Board member of Media & Entertainment Services Alliance (MESA) to assist in developing world-class industry security solutions and smart content standards on the blockchain alongside major studios and media industry leaders.

By joining CDSA and MESA, OTOY aims to unlock the new value blockchain technology offers by embedding the highest standards of content protection into the revolutionary scaling and smart contract properties of distributed networks. The effort will first focus on collaborating with the CDSA Board of Directors, Technology Committee and general membership as they work to develop the application and cloud security protocol for the new Trusted Partner Network (TPN), a joint venture between the CDSA and Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), the worldwide leaders in third-party entertainment industry assessments.

OTOY launched The RNDR Network in 2017, pioneering the first blockchain based GPU-cloud rendering and connected 3D asset marketplace for emerging ultra-high resolution, high-frame rate, responsive media. Through a distributed peer-to-peer network, RNDR aims to increase GPU-cloud compute scale and develop new smart-contract monetization frameworks for digital and holographic media -including virtual and mixed reality content. Through the CDSA, RNDR will join other studios and content creation companies in the ongoing dialogue to ensure RNDR nodes comply with coming best practices for cloud security assessment.

According to Jules Urbach, CEO of OTOY and Co-Founder of The RNDR Network, "We are thrilled to work with a consortium of industry leaders in CDSA to help accelerate the standardization of cloud-based authoring and distribution pipelines needed for the next-generation of media and entertainment." He added, "We hope our work with the CDSA and MESA communities will advance our industry's ongoing digital transformation, opening up new efficiencies and monetization channels for stunning Ultra High Resolution, light field, and XR media."

We're excited to have OTOY as a member and engaged across our member communities in data, IT and security," explained CDSA Executive Director and MESA President, Guy Finley. "Their commitment to evolving security protocols and creating efficiencies in ultra-high resolution workflows, through both technological innovation and industry thought leadership, compliments our mission, initiatives and membership."

Through MESA's Smart Content Council, OTOY will continue to develop key standards for decentralized cloud GPU nodes to join the RNDR network and provide industry-level security and IP protection. This includes embedding those standards with the ORBX framework for the creation of smart content metadata structures that enable 3D scene data and IP protections to seamlessly and securely transport from creation pipelines to distribution endpoints like mobile, VR, and XR.

Examples include providing new levels of security and metadata for OTOY's LightStage facial scan data, which will become registered on the RNDR blockchain, opening up new ancillary monetization opportunities for digital doubles. This Academy Award winning technology, seen recently in performances like the recreation of Peter Cushing's digital performance of Grand Moff Tarkin in ROGUE ONE, will now have wider adoption and even more security protocols as holographic performances become more widespread.

According to Urbach, "The future of media will be fully immersive, with ultra-high resolution imagery rendered and streamed in the cloud. In order to reach a growing number of devices from mobile phones to XR headsets and holographic displays, the industry will need orders of magnitude more GPU-cloud scale as well as intelligent metadata structures that take us beyond traditional media formats. These innovations will only be adopted if we maintain trust through robust security and CDSA/MESA membership allows us to make progress on both fronts, opening up new horizons to enhance and protect artistic creativity."

OTOY has joined CDSA/MESA during its launch of Phase II of The Render Token development, and will be contributing technical papers on decentralized content production and distribution in Q4 2018. To learn more and stay updated, please visit www.otoy.com and www.rendertoken.com
