2019 is the Year of Zero Trust Security
For 2018, I predicted that remote secure browsing would take
its place as an important network security technology. And in fact, in their
recent report on critical capabilities for secure web gateways, Gartner
confirmed this prediction by naming remote browser isolation as a critical
advanced threat defense capability for secure web gateways.
Based on this success, I'm upping the ante with two
cybersecurity predictions for 2019:
1) Zero
Trust Security: In 2019, more companies will adopt Zero Trust Security strategies,
based on the conviction that organizations cannot automatically trust anyone or
anything, whether inside or outside of its perimeter. Currently, solutions for verifying
and authenticating connection requests before access is granted are
labor-intensive and time-consuming to implement. I predict that this year, cybersecurity
companies will encourage Zero Trust adoption by beefing up their portfolios
with new, less labor-intensive Zero Trust product offerings, such as remote
browser isolation for Zero Trust Browsing.
2) AI will play
growing role on both sides of the cybersecurity battle between Good and Evil: With AI going mainstream for security applications,
hackers will increasingly exploit the technology for malicious ends. For
example, cybercriminals can manipulate chatbots on websites to trick people
into clicking on links or downloading files containing malware. On the other
side, AI and AI-driven analytics will be able to gather information from
successful ransomware and malware attacks and provide organizations with
blueprints for defending against hackers.
