Datadog,
the monitoring and analytics platform for modern cloud environments,
today announced the general availability of Serverless Monitoring. This
new addition to the Datadog platform provides comprehensive monitoring
and analytics for applications that run on serverless infrastructure.
Serverless
Monitoring brings together logs, application traces, and infrastructure
metrics from serverless functions to provide rapid problem detection
and diagnosis in applications that rely on serverless infrastructure.
Customers are able to understand the performance not only of the
serverless functions, but also the application and infrastructure
components that are upstream and downstream from each function.
With these new capabilities in Datadog, customers can now have insight into their serverless workloads by:
- Composing functions into services to visualize how they communicate with Datadog's Service Map
- Correlating
traces and logs with AWS X-Ray and Cloudwatch Logs, surfacing relevant
information from Lambda Functions within Datadog
- Generating custom metrics without impacting the execution-performance of critical serverless functions
- Tracing
requests across both host-based and serverless computing
infrastructure, so an application can be monitored and understood
regardless of the infrastructure it relies on
"Our
customers are increasingly adopting serverless architectures for their
applications, but have lacked the visibility necessary to use them with
confidence," said Stephen Pinkerton, Product Manager, Datadog. "This new
set of capabilities will allow our customers to use Serverless
Functions no matter their needs, whether they are serverless-first or
operate serverless functions within complex, critical cloud
environments."
"Lambda
functions can have unneeded overhead which has a latency impact. It's
paramount for us to be able to monitor them because this is a real-time
system and users need to have access to their videos right there and
then," said Reza Javidi, Director of SRE at Openfit. "We see that
Datadog is very forward-thinking in monitoring the Serverless space."
Serverless
Monitoring was announced at Dash, Datadog's annual conference about
building and scaling the next generation of applications,
infrastructure, and technical teams. Monitoring of Serverless workloads
is billed at $5 per function.
