Are you attending KubeCon 2019 in San Diego in November? If so, I invite you to add Lacework to your MUST SEE list of vendors.
KubeCon 2019 is shaping up to be a fantastic event! And the number
of sponsoring vendors at this year's show is extremely impressive as the show continues to grow in scope and size! One of the
companies that will be on VMblog's MUST SEE list this year at the
event is Lacework. Lacework delivers a complete cloud security platform for the entire IT infrastructure, from DevOps and orchestration environments to cloud and hybrid workloads. Unlike conventional security tools built for static datacenters, Lacework is designed to self-adapt to the cloud’s ever-changing configurations to provide visibility and intrusion detection that helps enterprises keep their data and resources safe.
Read
this exclusive pre-show interview between VMblog and Lacework to learn what they have
planned for the upcoming KubeCon North America 2019 event and why you need to visit their booth.
VMblog: As a KubeCon 2019 sponsor, how can people find you at the show?
Lacework: Find Lacework on the show floor at booth S105. We'll have our
resident container and K8 experts on staff to chat cloud, and answer any
questions you may have. Learn more at www.lacework.com/kubecon
VMblog: Is there anything interesting or unique about your booth? Is there a theme this year?
Lacework: We're going to be emphasizing
our platform approach to cloud and container security. To help attendees
understand the significance of this, we'll have our product experts in the
booth to provide thorough overview information. They'll also be able to go deep
into use cases and learn how attendees are using Kubernetes within their
organizations.
VMblog: If an attendee likes what they see and hear at your booth... what
message about your product can you send them back with to sell their boss on
your technology?
Lacework: Lacework brings a comprehensive platform approach to security for
modern environments. So why this this important? Well, as organizations operate
in an environment from build time and DevOps into run time with workloads and
accounts, it's far more efficient and accurate to apply a single security
platform across this entire continuous set of operations. Additionally,
companies are using a mix of cloud, containers, on-prem, bare metal, and other
ways to create and transact data and users. Point products for each of these
scenarios does not give the level of insight required to effectively identify
vulnerabilities. But having a platform provides deep visibility into
activities, irrespective of how related or unrelated they are.
VMblog: What are some of the reasons why you believe a KubeCon attendee should
add you to their MUST SEE list?
Lacework: Well, for one thing, our "RUN
K8S" shirts and stickers are a huge hit! Secondly, we'd like the opportunity to
meet with those running Kubernetes in order to understand how they operate and
what their security concerns are. KubeCon gives us a unique chance to have
really meaningful, honest conversations with the people who know the space
best.
VMblog: You all sponsored KubeCon before. What brings you back
as a sponsor this year?
Lacework: Lacework
sponsored last year and agreed - from our CEO to our development team - that
KubeCon is THE single best source of information and proximity to smart,
forward thinking Kubernetes experts.
VMblog: Can you give VMblog readers a sneak peek as to what you will be
showing off at your booth?
Lacework: Readers will get a chance to see how we approach security with a
comprehensive, build-time to run-time approach. They'll be able to see how our
behavioral anomaly detection achieves more accurate understanding of risks and
vulnerabilities.
VMblog: Thinking about your company, give readers a few reasons why your
product or service is considered unique.
Lacework:
- Lacework is
the only purpose-built security platform solution on the market. Others treat
DevOps, workloads, containers, etc all as separate things to be monitored.
- We use an
agent-based approach that delivers more reliable alerts.
- Our
approach uses behavioral anomaly detection, which means we're not alerting on
rules, but on actual behavior.
VMblog: How does your company and product fit within the container or
cloud ecosystem?
Lacework: Lacework provides container and Kubernetes security as part of our
platform approach. Our customers are doing significant container development
and to be able to apply the Lacework platform gives them visibility to be able
to address vulnerabilities both during development and when applications are
running.
VMblog: What would you say to prospective attendees who
are thinking about attending KubeCon but aren't sure if it's worth it or not?
Lacework: It's most definitely worth it; there is no better collection of
people thinking about container development than can be found at KubeCon.
VMblog: What do you think we need to do collectively as
an ecosystem to strengthen the industry?
Lacework: That's a layup for a security
vendor, but seriously, if companies want to innovate and move fast, they have
to do a better job of protecting their data and their users' data.
VMblog: At what stage do you feel we are at with regard
to containers?
Lacework: Some days it seems like we're
finally crossing the chasm; but because there is so much innovation in this
market, it can also feel like we haven't truly achieved a full understanding of
what containers are able to do, especially for organizations that are using
containers in hybrid, complex environments. The ability to change how
development is done equates both to the IT and cloud maturity of the
organization, and also with their willingness to innovate. So, from that
standpoint, containers are widely accepted (and for good reason), but we
haven't seen the extent of what containers can do, so it's hard to evaluate
just where they stand in terms of market maturity.
VMblog: What do you attribute to KubeCon's growing
success this year?
Lacework: Containers provide a
completely new dimension to development, and although they are a technology
topic, the impact of rapidly creating and delivering through containers has
improved the economic outlook for many organizations.
VMblog: What do you hope to come away with from
exhibiting at KubeCon? What does success look like?
Lacework: Success for us is that we leave the event smarter about the needs of
container users and developers.
VMblog: Do you have any tips for first time attendees
that you'd like to share?
Lacework: Size doesn't matter. There
will be Kubernetes users from organizations of all different types, sizes,
verticals - you'll be surprised at the level of innovation and maturity that
even really small, new companies have. At the same time, some of the "old
guard" have really prescient developers building insanely cool stuff.
VMblog: Attendees always enjoy a good trade show tchotchke. Are you
guys giving away anything special or interesting this year?
Lacework: Our "RUN K8S" stickers and shirts have become have-to items for all
the containerati
VMblog: Does your company have any speaking sessions during the show? If
so, can you give us the who, what, when and where?
Lacework: Catch Lacework CEO on the BrightTALK Panel: Building and Scaling
Applications the Kubernetes Way.
Containers have revolutionized application development - in particular the way
they're built and scaled. This in turn leads to challenges with security,
storage and networking, as well as the complexities faced with deploying to the
public cloud or on-premise servers. Join Kubernetes experts as they show how to
build and scale Kubernetes applications without the chaos.
