Trends in 2021 to Impact IT
By Greg Holick, Vice President, Product Management, IMT Software
In 2021, people will feel more confident moving their data
to the cloud. Cloud-forward data movement solutions will become much
more comfortable using the cloud and by 2025, 49% of all data will be in cloud-based
infrastructure. Hence, our first prediction is that the fear of the cloud will
evaporate 2021. This will be joined by other trends that will accelerate in the
coming twelve months:
Artificial intelligence will automatically unify data +
Data-driven automation for AI operations will become central to IT strategies
Next-generation data migration to and from the cloud will
integrate with an AI workflow which will move data from Edge environments to
the Core. As the data comes in, it will be tagged. The technology will be
deployed in differing environments -- manufacturing, autonomous vehicles, smart
cities, scientific research/data gathering, IoT space, etc.
Time, money and risk will continue to play an ever-important
role in data movement - Trend for the next 2-3 years
In the wake of COVID-19, enabling remote work has required
IT teams to rapidly lean into cloud technologies to keep their businesses
operating smoothly. Migrations will continue to be complicated and since time,
money and risk will continue to play an ever-important role in data movement,
customers will be looking to providers to offer them intelligent services and
active archive applications that leverage the cloud. With this change, the fear
of the cloud will evaporate. In fact, according to Forbes, by 2025, 49% of the
world's stored data will reside in public cloud environments.
Along with this shift to the cloud, Artificial intelligence
(AI) will automatically unify data and Data-driven automation for AI operations
will become central to IT strategies. Organizations will look to move data according to the
intelligence they receive from operational or situational intelligence. Migrations
will continue to be complicated and customers will be looking to providers to
offer them intelligent services and applications.
Data movement based off operational/situational intelligence
Intelligently tagging the data and preparing it for AI,
M&E, Smart Cities, and Scientific use will remain a trend for the next 2-3
years.
