VMblog Expert Interview: Apica Discusses Its Ascent Platform and New Microsoft 365 Monitoring Suite

Apica, the observability and monitoring company, announced an update to its Apica Ascent monitoring platform with support for Microsoft 365.  To find out more, VMblog spoke with Apica CPO, Jason Haworth. 

VMblog:  For any readers who may not know, what is the Apica Ascent platform?

Jason Haworth:  Sure! Apica Ascent offers a modern approach to understanding the digital user experience. With synthetic monitoring, endpoint visibility, and real-user monitoring, the Ascent platform delivers observability with automated root cause analysis and advanced application functional and performance testing. By integrating our monitoring and observability tools into our overall testing solution, we deliver greater insight into performance, reliability, and costs through the full software delivery lifecycle.

Companies like Morgan Stanley and HBO use us because of our highly effective service testing and monitoring capabilities for complex use cases at scale. In fact, the financial industry, streaming platforms, telco, online gaming platforms and automotive industries use Apica to improve their business objective outcomes. VMblog:  You announced news today. Can you share more details about this announcement?

Haworth:  Today, we introduced our Microsoft 365 monitoring suite. It can be deployed into any branch office using Apica Private Agents or through dedicated hosting to allow customers to test from the cloud or onprem.

VMblog:  Why are you introducing this now?

Haworth:  With the continued macroeconomic environment and distributed workforce, it's important for organizations to make sure all applications, especially important productivity applications, are running optimally to support their business objectives.

Now, Apica customers can get detailed reports and visualizations to identify the root cause of any performance problem in Outlook, Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive for Business, and Teams.

VMblog:  Interesting. Can you tell me more about why anyone would pick Apica over another APM option?

Haworth:  Yes, we offer a new approach, different than traditional APM tools - here's how:

  • We use synthetics to mimic a real users at scale for testing and monitoring service and infrastructure
  • We easily integrate with DevOps environment and with CI/CD tools
