Ready for AWS re:Invent 2023?  Attending the show?  Make sure to visit with Fortanix.

AWS re:Invent 2023 is taking place November 27 - December 1, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada, across multiple venues.

Read this exclusive interview between VMblog and Glenn Rhodes, VP of Product and Solutions Marketing at Fortanix, the data security company and pioneer of Confidential Computing.

VMblog: If you were giving an AWS re:Invent attendee a quick overview of the company, what would you say? How would you describe the company?

Glenn Rhodes:  Fortanix is a leader in Data Security. We help businesses of all sizes to modernize the protection of sensitive and regulated data-on-premises, in the cloud, and everywhere in between. Enterprises worldwide, especially in privacy-regulated industries like healthcare, fintech, financial services, government, and retail, trust Fortanix for data security, privacy, and compliance.

Fortanix Data Security Manager (DSM), is the industry-leading, unified data security and privacy platform, powered by Confidential Computing to deliver the highest NIST standards such as FIPS 140-2 Level 3.

The DSM platform delivers a suite of data security solutions including encryption, multi-cloud key management, tokenization, Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and now, Enterprise Key Posture Management (EKPM), from a single pane of glass.

Fortanix meets organizations where they are today in their data security journey based on their current needs and offers a platform that is easily extensible to meet future needs such as post-quantum cryptography. A platform approach delivers agility and efficiency while mitigating risks.

VMBlog: What is Enterprise Key Posture Management?

Rhodes:  Enterprise Key Posture Management is a new data security category that Fortanix is pioneering. You have heard of tools that deliver Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) as they discover and assess cloud configurations and capabilities. You have also heard of Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) tools that discover and categorize data to understand risks. However, these tools do not focus on encryption key lifecycle management. EKPM is a new category of tools that discover, assess AND remediate data encryption risks across hybrid, multicloud environments.

VMblog: AWS re:Invent is typically a great venue for a company to launch a new product or an update to an existing product. Will your company be announcing anything new?

Rhodes:  Today, Fortanix is announcing "Fortanix Key Insight," a new industry-first capability within the Fortanix DSM platform designed to help enterprises to discover, assess, and remediate enterprise encryption key and cloud data service risks (e.g. S3, RDS etc.) and compliance gaps across hybrid multicloud environments. Security, cloud and developer teams can now collaborate to assess risk posture and remediate compliance gaps consistent with policies, regulatory mandates, or industry standards (e.g., NIST, PCI, etc.).

Key Insight further strengthens the Fortanix data-first security solution set, helping enterprises prevent very damaging data breaches and steep fines from failed regulatory audits.

VMblog: What are the innovations in Fortanix Key Insight?

Rhodes:  Fortanix Key Insight offers several innovations to enhance data security:
  • Discover all encryption assets, and provide a detailed mapping between encryption keys and data services in an intuitive and easy-to-understand dashboard.
  • Assess data security risk posture through visual heatmaps that quickly pinpoint risks, gaps, and priorities against established policies, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Remediate gaps in policy and compliance to eliminate risk and to achieve crypto agility at scale, with robust monitoring and reporting that demonstrates continuous improvements over time.

VMblog: Can you expand on the Fortanix value statement - Look. Know. Further.

Rhodes:  Look. Know. Further., encapsulates the width of Fortanix's solution capabilities. Fortanix "looks" across siloed encryption environments and deep into the data services they protect, such as S3 or RDS in AWS. Fortanix helps organizations quickly "know" or assess their data security risk posture and blast radius relative to established crypto policies within the DSM platform, or standards such as NIST, PCI-DSS, and more. Additionally, Fortanix helps security teams go "further" with their security posture, providing complete control to remediate where necessary. This not only alleviates data security risks but also ensures compliance with regulations like GDPR, Schrems II among others.

VMblog: How can attendees of the event find you? What do you have planned at your booth this year? What type of things will attendees be able to do at your booth?

Rhodes:  Fortanix, a Gold Sponsor, will be at booth #118 in the Infrastructure Solutions zone. We welcome visitors to schedule a meeting with us while at AWS re:Invent to receive a Beats Solo3 wireless headphone.

  • Fortanix
  • BigID
  • Intel
  • Veritas
  • VEEAM
  • Keyfactor

Following each session, one attendee will win a Nintendo Switch LITE.
