The Future of Cyber Resilience
By Rahul Pawar, Global Vice President, Commvault
As the cybersecurity landscape
continues to evolve, organizations will need to increase their cyber resilience
to address pervasive threats.
This means that C-suite engagement in cyber preparedness initiatives will be
more crucial than ever - being out of the loop is not an option. Technologies
such as AI and automation will also play a greater role in detecting threats
and preventing attacks. Here are some thoughts on what I see playing out in
2024.
- Shifting Data Protection
Perspectives: In 2024, the focus on data protection as a key tenant
for business continuity will be at the forefront. I am seeing these trends
and they are only going to get stronger with active CISO involvement.
There is an increased understanding that cyber resilience is needed for
business continuity. Cyber security is critical - securing the perimeter
with the right monitoring and alerts, but also knowing a strong recovery
is an equally critical part of security.
- C-Suite Engagement:
When it comes to cyber preparedness, I expect the level of engagement by
members of the C-suite, including the CEO, to go up in 2024. It has to.
IDC shows that only 33% of senior executives are involved in current cyber
preparedness initiatives, yet 61% of those same leaders believe an attack
could impact their business in the next 12 months. The importance of cyber
preparedness must be a top-down initiative. In 2024, boards will also
expect more dedication from the C-suite to ensure organizations are looking
holistically at their security posture - from detection, to protection and
recovery. In addition, with new laws being passed like the SEC ruling, the
Caremark Act in the US, IRAP, and DORA, increased involvement from the
C-suite will be critical.
- AI Implementation/Cyber
Resilience: In 2024, expect to see enterprises take a more defined
approach in adopting AI, both offensively - to derive more insights from
data, and defensively - to fight AI-driven attacks. As AI advancements
continue, organizations will enhance cyber resilience by enabling
predictive analytics and automated threat response. We expect businesses
to prioritize data governance as it pertains to AI, ensuring proper
guardrails are in place around data access and data privacy.
