Qedma announced that its unique
software QESEM (Quantum Error Suppression and Error Mitigation) is now
available via IBM's Qiskit Functions. Qiskit Functions is designed to enable
quantum developers, data and computational scientists to interact with quantum
computers as easily as they do classical systems. Error mitigation is a crucial
step toward Quantum Advantage, marking a major milestone in the evolution of quantum
computing.
Achieving Quantum Advantage through Error
Mitigation
Quantum
Advantage, the point at which quantum computers outperform classical computers
for practical tasks, remains a key objective for the quantum computing
industry. However, reaching this milestone has been hindered by the pervasive
issue of quantum errors, which occur due to the inherent noise in quantum
operations. QESEM addresses this challenge directly by enabling quantum
algorithms to run dramatically more efficiently and accurately on existing
quantum processing units (QPUs).
"Simply put,
error mitigation is necessary to achieve Quantum Advantage in the near-term
future," said Qedma CEO Asif Sinay. "Our solution's availability through Qiskit
Functions highlights the crucial importance of error mitigation in the journey
toward a future where quantum computing delivers on its vast potential."
A Critical Milestone for the Industry
IBM's decision
to include QESEM as part of Qiskit Functions underscores the critical role that
error mitigation will play in the near-term future of quantum computing. By
reducing errors without incurring the massive qubit overhead associated with
Quantum Error Correction (QEC), QESEM allows users to run quantum algorithms on
circuits that are up to 1,000 times larger without losing accuracy, compared to
raw (unmitigated) execution. This significant boost in algorithmic volume
expands the range of applications that can be reliably executed, moving the
industry closer to realizing the long-promised benefits of quantum computing.
"Error
mitigation will be an essential tool for reaching quantum advantage.
Capabilities from partners like Qedma integrated in Qiskit Functions allow
users to seamlessly take advantage of these techniques to improve the accuracy
of executing utility-scale circuits and beyond. These advances pave the way for
unlocking value from near-term quantum computation, and I invite the quantum
community to begin to utilize these powerful tools," said Jay Gambetta, IBM
Fellow and Vice President, IBM Quantum.
Qedma's QESEM Enabling Progress Toward Quantum
Advantage
Qedma's
innovative approach to error mitigation is a long-term enabler of quantum
computing progress. Upcoming versions of QESEM will incorporate capabilities
for hybrid HPC-QPU execution (1) and compatibility with near-term quantum
error-correction technologies.
By including
QESEM as a Qiskit Functions for the IBM Quantum Network of more than 250
members of Fortune 500 companies, academic institutions and research labs,
Qedma is providing quantum software that helps ensure that researchers and
developers can continue to push the boundaries of what is possible with quantum
technology.
IBM Quantum
Network members with an agreement authorized by Qedma can access QESEM through the
Qiskit Functions on the IBM Quantum Platform.
"With QESEM, we
are not just reducing errors; we are fundamentally enhancing the computational
capabilities of quantum devices," added CEO Sinay "This collaboration with IBM
is a testament to the vital role that Qedma's technology will play in the
quantum revolution's progress."
