VMblog:  Give VMblog readers a quick overview of your company and its core mission in the cybersecurity space.

Alexander Summerer:  Swissbit AG is the leading European technology company for data storage and security solutions. Our vision is to build a connected world where data and identities are trusted, ensuring digital sovereignty. Founded in 2001, Swissbit operates offices in Switzerland (HQ), Germany, the USA, Japan, and Taiwan, and maintains its own semiconductor production facility in Berlin, Germany.

VMblog:  Where can attendees find you at RSA 2025? What’s your booth number, and what kind of experience can visitors expect when they stop by?

Summerer:  You can find us at RSA 2025 at booth #5168 in the North Hall. At the Swissbit booth, visitors can experience our latest advancements in authentication technology firsthand. We’ll be showcasing our full portfolio of hardware security keys, including the iShield Key series, which exemplifies our commitment to passwordless, phishing-resistant authentication.

One highlight is the iShield Key MIFARE – the first device to unify digital and physical access control -demonstrating how we’re redefining hardware security in response to today’s growing cyber and physical security challenges. Whether you’re looking to enhance your organization’s authentication strategy or explore cutting-edge solutions for secure access, our team will be on hand for demos and in-depth discussions.

VMblog:  What is your message to RSA attendees coming out to the show this year?

Summerer:  At RSA 2025, we’re inviting attendees to discover how Swissbit is redefining secure access with innovative, trusted hardware. Whether you’re tackling modern authentication, physical security, or compliance challenges, our solutions – developed and manufactured in Europe – empower you to take control of your digital sovereignty. Stop by booth #5168 North to see what’s next in unified access security.

VMblog:  What were your key learnings from 2024’s security landscape, and how have those insights shaped your solutions for 2025?

Summerer:  We observed a strong market momentum for security solutions and specifically noticed the high demand for strong authentication solutions. One of the drivers is the OMB M-22-09 Federal Zero Trust Strategy which had to be met by US federal agencies by end of 2024. The FIPS140-3 L3 validation is an important feature to qualify FIDO Security Key products for US federal agencies, and our product was the first in the market to obtain the certification.

VMblog:  What specific market challenges or pain points is your company addressing at RSA 2025? How have these evolved from previous years?

Summerer:  At RSA 2025, Swissbit is addressing the growing demand for a unified solution that simplifies both physical and logical access management. Over the past years, the common access card has gained traction among large enterprises. However, this form factor brings clear limitations, such as the need for separate smart card readers, a lack of user presence verification, no visual feedback, and vulnerability to wear and tear. The market is now shifting toward more secure, user-friendly, and cost-effective alternatives. With the rise of FIDO standards for authentication, token-based FIDO Security Keys are emerging as the preferred choice. They eliminate the need for external readers, require user interaction for verification, and provide feedback via LED indicators, addressing the usability and security gaps of legacy systems.

VMblog:  Can you share any exclusive previews or announcements that attendees can expect to see at your booth this year?

Summerer:  One of the key highlights at our booth this year is the debut of the next-generation iShield Key 2 series. This versatile security key protects both digital identities and physical spaces from unauthorized access, giving security teams full control over credentials and key assets. As a scalable addition to existing IAM systems, the iShield Key 2 supports a gradual rollout of modern authentication features, making it an ideal starting point for secure two-factor authentication and reducing reliance on passwords. The MIFARE variant uniquely combines physical and digital access in one device, while a FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certified version is available for environments with the highest security requirements.

VMblog:  What sets your solution apart in today’s crowded cybersecurity marketplace? Why should RSA attendees prioritize visiting your booth?

Summerer:  Swissbit’s solution stands out as the first FIDO Security Keys on the market that combines both physical and logical access in a single device, offering a streamlined and secure approach to access management. Our iShield Key 2 doesn’t just deliver strong FIDO2 authentication; it also enables secure building access, all with a compact and durable USB token. What’s more, the device supports secure updates via encrypted channels, allowing organizations to provision firmware and new applications in the field, maximizing flexibility and future-readiness. For RSA attendees seeking to modernize access strategies while reducing cost and complexity, Swissbit offers a compelling and differentiated solution worth exploring.

VMblog:  How is your company addressing the growing concerns around supply chain security and third-party risk management?

Summerer:  At Swissbit, supply chain security starts with full control over our design and manufacturing processes. All iShield Key models are developed and produced at our own facility in Berlin, Germany, under strict security standards. As the only memory and security key supplier with in-house production in Europe, we offer a trusted and transparent supply chain.

With roots going back to Siemens and decades of experience in microelectronics, Swissbit combines proven expertise with secure, European-based manufacturing to meet the highest standards of integrity and reliability.

VMblog:  What exciting demos or interactive experiences can attendees expect at your booth?

Summerer:  Visitors to the Swissbit booth can experience a live demo of our iShield Key integrated with the RSA ID Plus access management platform. As part of our strategic partnership with RSA, the security-first identity leader, we’ll showcase how this FIDO2-compliant, tamper-resistant key enhances passwordless authentication and improves phishing resistance. Together with the FIDO2-certified RSA Authenticator App, the solution delivers a comprehensive approach to secure, passwordless access – supporting Zero Trust strategies across all user types and environments.

VMblog:  How does your solution help organizations address regulatory compliance and emerging privacy requirements?

Summerer:  With increasing cyber threats, hybrid work environments, and evolving regulations like NIS2, DORA, CRA, KRITIS-V, OMB M-22-09 and the U.S. Executive Order on cybersecurity, organizations need strong, flexible authentication tools. The iShield Key 2 supports these needs by enabling multi-factor authentication and serving as a key component of Zero Trust strategies.

It allows businesses to quickly enhance their security posture while gradually introducing new authentication features. For environments with the highest security and compliance requirements, particularly in the U.S., the FIPS 140 3 Level 3 certified variant of the iShield Key 2 ensures alignment with federal standards and industry best practices.
