Lightbits announced it has been assigned a patent (11,513,729) for “distributed write buffer for storage systems.” The Lightbits Data Platform offers a unique combination of scalable, clustered, architected for NVMe/TCP storage with rich-enterprise data services and Intelligent Flash Management (IFM) to simplify and accelerate analytics and database workloads. The innovation described in this patent takes Lightbits’ IFM feature a step further by distributing the reads and writes to all nodes in the cluster’s persistent memory to further improve the endurance of NVMe flash and provide faster response to the application I/Os. Customers use Lightbits to enable fast, reliable, and secure cloud services and run cloud-native applications with their existing orchestration environments OpenStack, VMware, and Kubernetes.

The abstract of the patent (11,513,729) published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: A computer-based system and method for providing a distributed write buffer in a storage system, including: obtaining a write request at a primary storage server to store data associated with the write request in a non-volatile storage of the primary storage server; and storing the data associated with the write request in a persistent memory of the primary storage server or in a persistent memory of an auxiliary storage server based on presence of persistent memory space in the primary storage server. The write request may be acknowledged by the primary storage server after storing the data associated with the write request in the persistent memory of the primary storage server or in the persistent memory of the auxiliary storage server.

The patent (11,513,729) application was filed on July 13, 2021 (17/373,907).
