VMblog: What is EraStreams? Tell us about it.
Stela Udovicic: On May 17th, we announced the EraStreams private beta. EraStreams is a no-code data pipeline that enables IT teams to integrate, transform, and route observability data to EraSearch, our petabyte-scale log management platform, and third-party monitoring tools such as ELK clusters or Splunk. In addition, it offers a flexible way of managing the rising volumes and costs of observability data.
VMblog: And tell us, why are you launching EraStreams?
Udovicic: We’re broadening the scope of our log management solution and fitting into more of the observability stack. Our vision is to be the cost-efficient observability data management choice for organizations dealing with massive volumes of observability data. Our goal with EraStreams is to offer IT, security teams, and enterprise architects an easy-to-use and flexible data pipeline to manage observability data across their tools and enterprise.
VMblog: How does EraStreams complement EraSearch?
Udovicic: EraSearch is our observability and analytics platform, built on top of EraDB, our high-performance, cost-optimized, object storage-based database architecture. EraSearch can be self-hosted or sold as a SaaS offering, our EraCloud. EraSearch ingests, stores, and analyzes high log data volumes, often at a fraction of the cost offered by other solutions.
Adding EraStreams lets our customers easily consolidate observability data by processing and moving data between different sources and destinations at scale. IT practitioners can filter, transform, enrich, and route data from the source to EraSearch or other tools such as ELK clusters or Splunk. With EraSearch, data is cost-effectively stored and optimized for analysis.
VMblog: Explain what is unique about EraStreams, and talk about what it provides your customers?
Udovicic: Our solution is unique due to its unmatched flexibility, enterprise-scale performance, and low cost. IT and security teams can use EraStreams as a stand-alone offering to filter, route, reduce, and consolidate observability data across their organization. Or, for maximum cost efficiency, they can deploy EraStreams and EraSearch together and store a complete dataset in the cost-optimized EraSearch, while retaining the flexibility to route only a subset of data to expensive log management solutions.
Also, EraStreams supports dynamic reconfiguration, enabling on-the-fly changes to the pipelines and helping IT practitioners eliminate downtime and data loss.
In addition, EraStreams features a streamlined UI that makes complex transformations easy. For example, through our no code UI, you build observability pipelines in seconds.
VMblog: Who does EraStreams benefit?
Udovicic: EraStreams complements EraSearch to optimize cost-performance and is flexible to integrate into existing DevOps workflows and tools. For IT teams, including DevOps practitioners and SREs, this means managing log data costs confidently by filtering less relevant data for faster troubleshooting while extracting useful data automatically or through powerful filters.
For security teams with high log management costs and performance challenges using expensive SIEM solutions, EraStreams transforms and routes optimized datasets to a SIEM for security analytics and offers an option to send raw data to EraSearch for cost-efficient log management. If personally identifiable information (PII) poses a security risk, teams can protect sensitive data by masking it. Data managed in EraSearch can be efficiently retrieved through its observability data rehydration capability when needed for long-term troubleshooting, forensic investigations, or threat hunting.
