Learn more about managing the workspace in this VMblog Expert Q&A with Nico Zieck, director of technologies and solutions of Liquit.
VMblog: Before we dive in, give us a quick overview of what Liquit does.
Nico Zieck: Liquit makes applications and end users work harmoniously and transparently in the way that everyone demands and expects. At the same time, we give the IT team the management and provisioning control that’s fast, simple, and transparent. This is how end-to-end application management was meant to work for every enterprise and organization.
Most organizations struggle with the complexity of managing the workspaces. Liquit provides a one-stop-shop for all the end users’ needs without having to search for the right application. The IT department has full control over the applications, settings, and updates in physical or virtual environment.
VMblog: What was the big news from your product release two weeks ago?
Zieck: In Liquit Workspace 4.0 we have introduced a Universal Agent for both macOS and Windows. We are now using a single code base to manage different platforms from one console in one unified interface for end users. Quite unique in the market.
At Liquit, we see that the demand for hybrid work is growing every day. With hybrid work a different approach to support applications and devices is required. With our new release we start a whole new era of enabling the hybrid workforce, both technical (cloud and on-premises) and end user support with real ease of access to everything.
In addition to the Universal Agent, Liquit has introduced over 70 new features in this release. We have introduced for example a Connector for VMware Horizon that will connect, deploy, and run any VMware applications within minutes in the new modern workspace without impacting the end user. The new Connector to the Microsoft Store is still in preview but enables a user to browse a repository of 60k+ applications, enterprise ready in no time.

VMblog: Hybrid is a real thing these days. Many organizations are moving to the cloud. Any expert advice from Liquit on this topic?
Zieck: Liquit solves a hybrid issue, with one single unified front-end but also one unified image deployment, taking away the barriers between implementing different solutions. It does not have to be complicated.
Many customers are afraid of the impact on the end users when introducing new technologies and moving towards the modern workspace. We strongly believe that the complexity of new technology does not need to be in the way of implementing new technologies. With Liquit you can connect to your current state, whilst moving slowly but surely to the future of IT without impacting any of your end users. Keep in mind, this is not a one-time-job but a continuous journey to new technologies. An IT solution should be an enabler for these journeys and not a limitation.
This may also be a good moment to tell you about a webinar we recorded: “Simplifying Application Delivery and Access in a Hybrid World.” If you’d like to know more, you can watch the recording here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7Zs-OMX6K8.
VMblog: Liquit has something you called ‘Smart Icons’. Can you tell me more about it and what they solve?
Zieck: Our unique Smart Icon Technology adapts to the end user in his/her current scenario or situation. Take for instance installing and configuring to startup and automatic updates, but taking into consideration the user’s device, location, role, etc.
Why is this important? With this technology we offer the end user the “Apple experience” meaning we click on it, and it runs, no matter the circumstance. In addition to making life easier for the end user, for the business this could mean that more expensive license packs from other vendors are no longer needed. We can take a lot of these features within one single license.
And as an extra bonus, users will always have the most recent version of an application, fully automated so big time-savings for IT.
VMblog: Liquit is part of the Digital Workspace Ecosystem Alliance. Can you tell me about that and the report that we recently launched?
Zieck: Yes! We are proud to be one technology leads that make up The Digital Workspace Ecosystem Alliance (DWEA). Together we are dedicated to helping organizations enable secure productivity for all their people – including remote, in-office, and hybrid workers.
Earlier this year, we surveyed nearly 3000 respondents about the state of their digital workspace. The result is a great report designed for decision makers providing better insight as they work toward their optimal digital workspace.
One of the findings was that a very large part of the respondents said that their biggest concern when implementing a digital workspace was the potential impact on the end user plus overall complexity. That is where the Smart Icons come back into play. The end user clicks his/her icon, and it simply works, anywhere and on any device. Liquit takes care of the technology in the back end.
