Industry executives and experts share their predictions for 2026.  Read them in this 18th annual VMblog.com series exclusive.

By Daniel Meyer, Chief Technology Officer and Jakob Freund, CEO and Co-Founder, Camunda

As AI pilots stall and pressure increases to realise tangible business benefit, the Camunda leadership team shares two key 2026 predictions on how enterprises will unlock AI’s value in the next year. Camunda’s CEO and CTO highlight the role of multi-agent orchestration and enterprise agentic automation in reducing risk and delivering AI autonomy at scale, driving both operational and customer experience benefits.

See below:

1) Multi-agent orchestration will bring order to agentic AI chaos

Multi-agent orchestration will be a big focus next year as organizations look to realise greater value from their disparate agentic AI investments. The next chapter of agentic AI is less about how smart any single agent is and more about how well organizations can co-ordinate multi-agent interactions, while maintaining the highest levels of governance and accountability. Through multi-agent orchestration, organizations can enable their agents to plan collaboratively, delegate work and react in real time, while maintaining full visibility. This will enable organizations to truly take operational efficiency and customer experience to the next level.

2) Enterprise agentic automation will turn AI potential into business reality

In 2026, enterprise agentic automation (EAA) will close the gap between the vision and reality of agentic AI. Many agentic AI initiatives have hit a ceiling, with most pilots failing to scale beyond isolated, task-level use cases. EAA reimagines what is possible. By blending dynamic AI with determinist guardrails and human-in-the-loop checkpoints, enterprises will be empowered to automate complex, exception-heavy or cognitive work without losing control.

EAA combines policy and technology to design, govern and orchestrate agents, humans, and systems across end-to-end processes to deliver trusted AI autonomy at scale. Role-based permission and human-in-the-loop checks provide greater control over outputs, striking the right balance between agent autonomy and human oversight. With pressure on many organizations to start demonstrating a real return on their AI investments, EAA will be the key to reduce risk and technical debt while unlocking meaningful business outcomes and real ROI.
